  • Patent number: 4131099
Abstract: An improved throttle valve for use in the suction tube of a mixture compressing, externally ignited internal combustion engine in which the transversely extending shaft of the throttle valve is provided with an elongated aperture, the opening of which is arbitrarily variable by means of a movable valve component associated with a by-pass valve.A reciprocal type valve as well as a rotary type valve are disclosed for controlling the aforesaid aperture with each said last-named valves being associated with electrical heater elements.

  • Patent number: 4090487
Abstract: A fuel injection system for externally ignited internal combustion engines in which a fuel metering and distributing valve is controlled by an air sensing element disposed in the air suction tube of the engine and by structure which is adapted to alter the restoring force exerted on the air sensing element through the fuel metering and distributing valve. The noted structure includes a control pressure conduit, a pressure control valve connected to the control pressure conduit and further conduits for connecting the pressure control valve to the suction tube of the engine downstream of the butterfly valve and between the air sensing element and the butterfly valve. With this structure it is possible to alter the restoring force mentioned above so that a properly proportioned fuel - air mixture is achieved for various load changes of the internal combustion engine.

With this structure it is possible to alter the restoring force mentioned above so that a properly proportioned fuel-air mixture is achieved, and in particular, so that a properly enriched fuel-air mixture is achieved during full load operation.

  • Patent number: 3961477
Abstract: For detoxicating the exhaust gases of an internal combustion engine an in-series arrangement of a first reactor and an oxidizing reactor is provided with the exhaust line of the engine along with an oxygen measuring element and structure for producing two additional air streams fed to the exhaust line. The first reactor reduces the nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gas and the second or oxidizing reactor oxidizes the hydrocarbons and the carbon monoxide in the exhaust gas. The oxygen measuring element is mounted to the exhaust line and regulates the mass ratio of air to fuel on the suction side of the engine. The first additional air stream is injected into the exhaust pipe in the flow direction upstream of the oxygen measuring element. The quantity of this air stream is regulated and corresponds to the fuel throughput of the engine so that when the oxygen measuring element measures a stoichiometric mixture (.lambda.=1) a slightly rich air-fuel mixture (.lambda. .apprxeq.0.98-0.99) is supplied to the engine.
