    Abstract: The invention relates to a process for preparing molded articles of foamed polystyrene which are characterised by flame resistance or, respectively, flame retardatory properties, the process comprising foaming expandable polystyrene granulate or bead containing a blowing agent with an aqueous medium containing an alkali silicate, and optionally triglycidyl isocyanurate, a water-soluble amine, and a quaternary ammonium base.
