  • Patent number: 11826842
Abstract: A power skiving method wherein three-dimensional cutter rotations relative to gear workpiece tooth flank surfaces are carried out so as to reposition the cutter relative to a gear workpiece so as to achieve a decrease and/or an increase in the pressure angle of the tooth flank surfaces. The method can be applied independently to left and right flank surfaces of a tooth slot or the rotations may be superimposed on one another to realize pressure angle corrections on both tooth flanks of a tooth slot.

  • Publication number: 20230278121
Abstract: A method of producing a tooth flank surface on gear teeth by controlled removal of stock material from a work gear with a tool with the work gear and the tool being movable with respect to one another along and/or about a plurality of axes. The tool and work gear are engaged with one another and then moved relative to one another in a generating motion along and/or about the plurality of axes. Stock material is removed from the work gear to produce the tooth surface on the work gear. The generating motion along and/or about the plurality of axes comprises motion along and/or about at least one of the axes with the motion being defined by a function having a first level component and a second level component. The first level component defining a maximum flank form deviation amplitude for each tooth of the work gear, and the second level component defining a modification of the tooth surface of each tooth of the work gear.

  • Publication number: 20230168149
Abstract: A method of applying a contrast agent, such as a luminescent contrast agent (e.g. fluorescent, phosphorescent) to the tooth flank surfaces (3, 4) of a gearset (1, 2) wherein the luminescent contrast agent is mixed with transmission oil and is preferably invisible to the human eye. While the members of the gearset roll together, the contrast agent-oil mixture (6) is first introduced into the mesh of the rolling gears. While the mixture is squeezed through the tooth contact, most of the oil is removed in the area of tooth contact. A camera (15), including, as necessary, a filter for certain light wave frequencies, obtains an image which shows the areas with and without luminescent contrast agent. The area (10) where the luminescent contrast agent has been partially or completely removed represents the zone of the tooth contact.

  • Patent number: 10814415
Abstract: A gear cutting tool wherein each cutting blade group includes two differently positioned but identical cutting blades (41, 40) such as an one outside and one inside blade. The inventive blade arrangement only requires a single type of blade (30) in order to simultaneously cut the convex and the concave tooth flanks of a gear as well as the root fillet and root bottom portions of tooth slots. The cutter system allows radial adjustment of the outside cutting blade and the inside cutting blade independently of one another. Additionally, inside and outside cutting blades may be exchanged with one another.

  • Patent number: 10744581
Abstract: Cutting blade pressure angle changes or corrections in power skiving cutters (20) can be realized without the need tor a tool geometry change. An axial shift (26) of the blade reference point (24) will shift the existing involute on the blade profiles (22, 23) into a different radial location. An accompanying shift (AR) of the reference involute profile (30) by approximately the same amount and in the same direction will re-establish the relationship between work gear and cutter. The resulting work gear geometry has the same radial location of the slots, with the same slot width and the same tooth thickness but with a changed pressure angle.
