  • Patent number: 4247093
Abstract: A method of and apparatus for automatically loading a circular sheet pile feeder with successive splayed piles of sheets removed from a stack of sheets disposed on a pallet are disclosed. A pile of sheets of a given height is separated from the stack on the pallet by means of a separating mechanism which forms a gap beneath the pile of sheets in which gap a roller conveyor table is inserted to pick up the pile. The pile is then conveyed upwardly and transversely to a second conveyor table where the pile is deposited and the sheets thereof are tamped into alignment. The second conveyor table transports the pile of sheets to a splaying mechanism where the pile is splayed by gripping one end of the pile, bending the same about an axis parallel to said end and returning the bent end to its normal, unbent position while clamping the pile intermediate its ends.

  • Patent number: 4076232
Abstract: An apparatus for lifting a signature fed on a wedge-shaped saddle to a conveyor by an upwardly and downwardly movable lifting comb, which conveyor comprises at least one pair of conveyor elements, one of them being wheel-shaped and the other one being an elongated flexible endless member which is mounted for revolving movement along an endless path. Said path is defined by deflecting means and runs along a segment of the peripheral surface of the wheel-shaped element so as to form a conveyor gap for conveying the signature lifted by said lifting comb. In a transfer station, a pressing means is provided for pressing the lifted signature to the wheel-shaped conveyor element for transferring the signature from the lifting comb to the mouth of the conveyor gap.

  • Patent number: 4030394
Abstract: Apparatus for cutting through a pile of sheets with a revolving blade is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a relatively slowly rotatable disk-knife having a circular cutting edge and reciprocable between a cutting position and a rest position. A conveying system is provided for holding and supplying the pile of sheets to the disk-knife and carries, on a sliding carriage, a counter-knife for the disk-knife and a pair of confronting clamping members for releasably clamping the pile of sheets during the cutting operation. A common drive is provided which is synchronously interconnected with the conveying and cutting elements of the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4010945
Abstract: This disclosure relates to a continuous sheet feeder in which a stack of sheets arranged sheet-by-sheet are transported by conveyor belts from a lower loading tray, around a reversing cylinder and onto a discharge tray. In the region of the discharge tray, the conveyer passes between two guide rollers the longitudinal axes of which are arranged parallel to the axis of rotation of the reversing cylinder. The two guide rollers in the discharge tray are laterally movable with respect to each other whereby the inclination of the stack of sheets resting in the discharge tray can be automatically adjusted so that the upper sheet in the stack is always maintained in a horizontal disposition regardless of the format or size of the sheets, or their sheet-by-sheet arrangement.

  • Patent number: 3995849
Abstract: In a sheet folding machine of the type having three elongated rollers and a pocket, said pocket having a pair of elongated lip members extending parallel to the axes of said rollers and into a space provided between two of said rollers, said lip members forming between them an elongated opening for guiding between them a sheet, such as a paper sheet or a carton, to be folded into the pocket, elements defining opposite walls of said pocket, one of the wall elements having a portion adjoining the opening of the pocket and secured to one of the lip members adjustably in a direction transversely to the opening and extending into close proximity to an entrance surface of the respective lip member, whereby the width of said opening is adjustable to different sheet thicknesses without changing the position of the lips relative to each other and to said rollers.
