Abstract: Described are water-in-oil emulsions containing an emulsion polymerizate which is soluble in or swells in water and an oil phase, consisting at least partly of monoether compounds, that is not miscible with water in all proportions. Also described are a method of preparing such emulsions and their use as agents for precipitation, sedimentation, and/or thickening.

Abstract: Branched-chain aliphatic ester oils comprising full esters of branched-chain aliphatic polyols having from 2 to 6 hydroxyl groups with mixtures of saturated, branched-chain, aliphatic monocarboxylic acids having from 14 to 22 carbon atoms and saturated straight-chain aliphatic monocarboxylic acids having from 8 to 10 carbon atoms, as well as their use alone, or as mixture components, as lubricants or hydraulic fluids.

Abstract: An improvement in the process of setting hair comprising applying a film of a vinyl acetate copolymerizate consisting essentially of(a) from 65% to 80% by weight of vinyl acetate units,(b) from 10% to 20% by weight of units of a maleic acid diester with a straight-chained alkanol-1 having from about 8 to 10 carbon atoms,(c) from 5% to 20% by weight of units of a mono-olefinically unsaturated ester having from 6 to 8 carbon atoms and a hydrophilic group, and(d) from 3% to 10%, particularly 7%, by weight of crotonic acid and salts thereof,To the hair after setting the same; and hair setting agents in the form of hair sprays and setting lotions containing up to 10% by weight of said vinyl acetate copolymerizate and/or salts thereof.

Abstract: At least water-emulsifiable plant growth regulators, especially for inhibiting the growth of sucker shoots of tobacco plants, consisting of fatty acid polyoxyethylene glycol ester mixtures obtained by ethoxylating fatty acids having from 6 to 12 carbon atoms with from 4 to 8 mols of ethylene oxide per mol of fatty acid; as well as the process of inhibiting the undesired growth of plants, particularly the growth of sucker shoots of tobacco plants, by the application of aqueous solutions or emulsions of the above plant growth emulsifiers to the plants.
