  • Patent number: 5361825
Abstract: The invention relates to a plug made of refractory material for a metallurgical casting vessel. The plug 5, which can be formed with a central axial channel 5b, has an axial channel 5d which terminates eccentrically in front of the plug cap 5a and which is disposed in an axially extending rib 5c formed on the plug 5. A thermocouple 6 with its measuring cables is accommodated in said further axial channel 5d.

  • Patent number: 5058656
Abstract: The continuous casting installation includes:a) a funnel-shaped oscillating mold having cooled walls to produce a steel strip having a thickness of 40 to 50 mm; andb) a deforming device disposed at a distance of at most 0.5 m from the mold outlet to squeeze the steel strip to a thickness of not more than 25 mm.

  • Patent number: 4951734
Abstract: A steel strand having a thickness of 40 to 50 mm in cast in an oscillating mold for continuous casting at a speed of 2 to 20 m/min. The not yet completely solidified steel strand emerging from the mold is squeezed to such an extent that the inner walls of the already solidified strand shell are welded to one another. After the steel strand reduced in thickness in this way has been cooled to 1000.degree. to 1200.degree. C., the strip is rolled out in at least one pass with a 5 to 85% degree of deformation.

  • Patent number: 4883111
Abstract: The mould includes wide side plates 4, 5 and adjustable narrow side plates 2, 3 which can be clamped by the wide side plates 4, 5. Adjusting cylinders 11 operable by a hydraulic pressure medium are used to adjust and tension the wide side plate 5. To prevent the tensioning from becoming accidentally loosened if the pressure medium fails, the wide side plate 5 is additionally supported, more particularly on clamping elements 12 which can be clamped to the piston rods 13 of the adjusting cylinders 11. A control device 21 activates the clamping elements 12 when a limit pressure is reached at the adjusting cylinders 11.

  • Patent number: 4819840
Abstract: The invention relates to a refractory submerged pouring nozzle for the continuous casting of molten metals, especially molten steel, in a mould for thin slabs. The submerged pouring nozzle 2 is covered by a bottom plate 13 on its lower end face and has two opposing outflow orifices 11. While the edge of the bottom 13 forms a breakaway edge 11' for the molten metal, there adjoins the remaining edge of the especially archway-like outflow orifice 11 a roof-shaped guide element 15, the sideparts 15'0 of which have free edges 15" projecting from the outer edge of the upper part 15" of the guide element 15 and extending obliquely downwards to the lower breakaway edge 11'.

  • Patent number: 4719960
Abstract: Means are provided for connecting the proximal end of a dummy strip to the distal (i.e. leading) end of a strip casting, in which a throw-away element serving both as a connector and a heat sink for chilling the metal adjacent to the connector is removably mounted on the proximal end of the dummy strip, with a slightly resilient sealing element holding both the dummy strip and the connector-heat sink element centrally of the mold cavity, and with the connector-heat sink spaced from the walls of the mold by a narrow gap and also having means for both chilling and positively interlocking with the metal of the distal end of the cast strip when it congeals.
