  • Patent number: 4786362
Abstract: According to the invention a method for producing decorative or informative patterns on objects made of plated metal sheets is disclosed. The procedure is to remove the outer plated layer mechanically or chemically as far as at least one of the lower layers in the shape of the desired pattern. The object thus obtained, with the exposed lower layer or layers, is then treated in one and the same surface treatment bath, with which the outer and the inner layers react differently. It is advantageous to use aluminum of different degrees of purity for plated layers and to use a polishing bath for the surface treatment.

  • Patent number: 4294368
Abstract: The invention contemplates a formed-metal sealing cap especially adapted for removable closure of a bottle or the like container having contents under internal pressure. A circumferential pleat of the cap skirt forms the bottom rim of the upper reusable portion of the cap, and the lower portion of the cap is severably but integrally connected to the pleated region of the upper portion. In the forms described, the severable connection is via a tear-off strip of cap material which is circumferentially united to the upper reusable cap portion on a circumferentially extending locally weakened alignment, and the weakened alignment is enveloped by the pleated region. Thread-on and clinch-type cap-to-bottle embodiments are described.

  • Patent number: 4149647
Abstract: A metal cap for crimping on the neck of a container has one or two tear lines of reduced strength about its skirt which define a tear-off strip. A perforation for initiating tearing extends across the width of the strip and at least one smaller perforation is also provided in the strip. A tear-off tab (plastic tape) engages both sides of the strip and is joined together through the perforations. The larger perforation is either U- or L-shaped, a straight slot or variations thereof. The portion of the tear line adjacent the larger perforation may be scored to facilitate initial rupture in the desired direction. One or more circumferential reinforcing ribs may be provided in the skirt on one or both sides of the tear-off strip. In addition to the full circumferential tear line, a partial tear line may extend between the larger perforation and a slot in the edge of the cap to provide an initially narrow tear-off strip, which enlarges to include the edge of the cap.
