Patent number: 4490495Abstract: A solution for coating plastic material for tinting and the method of making said solution is described. The process for coating plastic material and for tinting the material is also described. This solution and process provides scratch resistance to the surface of the coated polycarbonate and CR-39 lenses, absorbs dye and permits the plastics to absorb the dye and adheres strongly to the plastic surface.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 1982Date of Patent: December 25, 1984Assignee: Techsight Corp.Inventor: Hermann Weber

Patent number: 4455964Abstract: A mount for handling and conveying optical material is disclosed. The mount includes an elastic band disposed around the circumference of the optical material and a hanger. The hanger includes an upper generally "T" shaped suspension portion and a lower engagement hook. The engagement hook slips between the elastic band and the surface of the optical material such that the material may be suspended and conveyed by the hanger. Where a thin edge plastic lens is to be conveyed which cannot support an elastic band disposed around its circumference, a small hole is provided near the edge of and through the lens. The engagement hook of the hanger is passed through the hole and the lens may then be conveyed by the hanger. An alternate embodiment is disclosed for use where only one side of a lens is to be coated.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 1982Date of Patent: June 26, 1984Assignee: Techsight CorporationInventor: Hermann Weber

Patent number: 4438159Abstract: The present invention comprises a method and apparatus for providing a uniform coating on objects such as a lens. A bath of coating solution is provided and the object to be coated is immersed into the solution. The object is then removed into an atmosphere substantially saturated with the coating solution. The object is maintained in the substantially saturated atmosphere for a predetermined time to allow excess coating material to disperse and flow off the surface of the object. The object is then withdrawn from the saturated atmosphere and dried in the conventional manner. The maintenance of the object within the substantially saturated atmosphere for the predetermined time eliminates the formation of puddles and drip lines.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 1982Date of Patent: March 20, 1984Assignee: Techsight CorporationInventor: Hermann Weber

Patent number: 4343779Abstract: A process and apparatus for condensing solid materials such as phosphates which tend to sinter and adhere when heated in a reactor wherein the reactants are introduced into a trough-like reactor provided with at least one set of rotatable agitating paddles. Heat is supplied to the reactor by passing a heating medium, such as a molten salt or a molten metal, through one or more heating jackets on the exterior of the reactor housing. The agitating paddles press the solid material in a thin layer against the wall of the reactor housing, and the material in the layer absorbs heat from the heating medium and sinters to a hard layer. One paddle of each set of paddles is provided with a stripping knife which moves along a path closely adjacent to the exterior wall of the reaction chamber to strip sintered material from the wall of the reactor housing. Heat is also transferred to the interior of the reactor housing by circulating the peeled material through the interior region of the reactor housing.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 1981Date of Patent: August 10, 1982Assignee: Benckiser-Knapsack GmbHInventors: Klaus Sommer, Walter Klemm, Hermann Weber, Frederich Meinhardt, Gerhard Schonmann, Wilhelm Spatz

Patent number: 4308147Abstract: Disclosed are a composition and method for treating aqueous solutions with N-carboxy alkyl amino alkane polyphosphonic acids which have more than two carbon atoms in their carboxy alkyl group, and their alkali metal salts. The acids and salts are prepared in a good yield by reacting alkali metal salts of amino alkane phosphonic acids in which at least one hydrogen atom of the amino group is unsubstituted, in an alkaline medium with an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated carboxylic acid at increased temperature. The free acids are preferably recovered from the reaction solution by a treatment with a cation exchange agent. In place of the .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated carboxylic acids there can also be used their anhydrides, esters, or nitriles. The resulting polyphosphonic acids have a good complexing or sequestering effect on polyvalent metal ions.Type: GrantFiled: November 7, 1979Date of Patent: December 29, 1981Assignee: Benckiser-Knapsack GmbHInventors: Klaus Sommer, Hermann Weber

Patent number: 4280303Abstract: A plastic pellet cleaning apparatus and method for producing plastic pellets for optical lense molding is provided. The plastic is melted and molded utilizing an injection molding process to produce optical lenses which will be used for a variety of applications. The apparatus and method disclosed will produce plastic pellets substantially clean of contaminants which would otherwise cause microscopic defects in the optical lenses produced therefrom. Generally, optical lenses produced which have these defects are rejected.Type: GrantFiled: May 1, 1980Date of Patent: July 28, 1981Inventor: Hermann Weber

Patent number: 4235682Abstract: The solution for sealing anodic oxidized aluminum or aluminum alloys comprises basically an aqueous solution containing an addition of 0.1 to 2.5 g/l, made up of Agar-Agar and gelatine. the optimum pH value for the solution lies between 5.5 and 6.0.The sealing is carried out at a temperature between 90.degree. C. and the boiling point of the solution.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 1979Date of Patent: November 25, 1980Assignee: Swiss Aluminium Ltd.Inventors: Fritz Schneeberger, Walter Zweifel, Hermann Weber

Patent number: 4216163Abstract: Novel and highly advantageous N-sulfo alkane amino alkane phosphonic acids and their alkali metal salts are provided. Said phosphonic acids are produced by reacting an alkali metal salt of an amino phosphonic acid with a halo, preferably chloro, or hydroxy alkane sulfonic acid or their alkali metal salts in an alkaline medium, while heating. In place of the halo and especially chloro or hydroxy alkane sulfonic acid reactants, there can also be used compounds which are capable of producing hydroxy alkane sulfonates such as carbylsulfate or aldehydes or, respectively, ethylene oxide with alkali metal bisulfites or metasulfites. The reaction is preferably carried out in a molar proportion of about 1:1 to about 1:2. The novel compounds are excellent complexing or sequestering agents especially with respect to polyvalent metal ions. They are highly resistant against hydrolysis and high temperatures and are of a very high water solubility.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 1978Date of Patent: August 5, 1980Assignee: Benckiser-Knapsack GmbHInventors: Klaus Sommer, Hermann Weber

Patent number: 4162300Abstract: Pure Maddrell salt is produced by heating sodium phosphate to temperatures of 250.degree. to 420.degree. C. The sodium phospate used as starting material is sodium trimetaphosphate or a mixture of sodium trimetaphosphate with Maddrell salt, monosodium orthophosphate or disodium pyrophosphate, the mixture containing Na and P in a molar ratio of 1:1. Prior to heating the starting material, it is admixed with 0.5 to 5 weight% of orthophosphoric acid, polyphosphoric acid, phosphorus pentoxide or at least one salt of a volatile base forming polyphosphoric acid at the temperatures specified. The resulting mixture is calcined over the period necessary to transform the starting material to Maddrell salt.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 1978Date of Patent: July 24, 1979Assignee: Hoechst AktiengesellschaftInventors: Renate Adrian, Raban VON Schenck, Klaus Somme, Hermann Weber
