  • Patent number: 7148179
Abstract: A catalyst support is produced by mixing particulate synthetic silica with 0.5–10 parts by weight of one or more particulate oxides or phosphates of the elements of group IIA, IIIB, IVB, VA, VIB, VIIB, VIII, IB, IIB, IIIA, IVA and lanthanides or precursors thereof, shaping the mixture and then calcining the shaped mixture to form the finished support. The formed support has improved stability relative to aging resistance under hydrothermal conditions. The catalyst support is used together with phosphoric acid in the production of alcohols from olefins by hydration. The resultant hydration catalysts have excellent activity and selectivity.

  • Publication number: 20030195114
Abstract: Moulded body based on pyrogenically prepared silicon dioxide, having an annular cylindrical form, the cross section of which has a void and wherein the free surface area accounts for from 1.6 to 77% of the total surface area of the cross section. Supported catalyst which contains on a support (moulded body) as the catalytically active components palladium and/or compounds and alkali metal compounds thereof, as well as additionally gold and/or compounds thereof (Pd/alkali metal/Au system) or cadmium and/or compounds thereof (Pd/alkali metal/Cd system) or barium and/or components thereof (Pd/alkali metal/Ba system) or palladium, alkali metal compounds and mixtures of gold and/or cadmium and/or barium. The catalyst is on a support having a channel which passes through it, and the active components exhibit a penetration depth of more than 0.5 mm to 1.5 mm, calculated from the surface of the support material.

  • Publication number: 20030037415
Abstract: A continuous process and apparatus for the production of at least approximately spherical, substantially solid particles, in which the particles are granulated in a circulating fluidized bed. This can be achieved by spraying a suspension or a solution of the solid which forms the particles into a chamber. A drying gas is passed through the chamber at a velocity which is sufficient to effect pneumatic conveying of already partially dried or agglomerated particles. The particles conveyed by the drying gas stream are separated from the exhaust gas stream and returned, at least in part, to the chamber. Particles with a size within the desired particle size range are continuously discharged from the chamber, such that the mass present in the chamber remains constant.
