  • Patent number: 7422240
Abstract: A deformation device, especially for the steering column of a motor vehicle. The deformation device comprises a deformation tube (2), which can be deformed in a defined manner, as well as a deforming cone (1) associated with the deformation tube (2). The deformation device has at the deforming cone (1) at least one elevation (13, 28) or recess, whose edges (8) engage edges (9) of at least one impression (23, 25) or recess (10), whose shape corresponds to the elevation of the cone or the recess of the cone at the cone-side end of the deformation tube (2), in a positive (material blocking) manner, as a result of which essentially any desired high torque can be transmitted between the deformation tube (2) and the deforming cone (1) without any change in the good behavior in a collision.

  • Publication number: 20040032121
Abstract: The invention relates to a motor vehicle steering column unit consisting of a steering column which can be electromechanically adjusted in the longitudinal direction of and/or in relation to the inclination thereof. The aim of the invention is to provide a steering column unit which can be easily adapted to various types of vehicles and which can be configured, during the manufacturing process thereof, in a variety of manners with respect to the functionality thereof, said steering column unit being clearly defined systemically in relation to other components of the motor vehicle.

  • Patent number: 6390506
Abstract: A fastening system for fixing a first assembly unit to a second component for use especially in the motor vehicle industry is presented, which has at least one fastening screw, a corresponding first preassembly thread on the first assembly unit, in which the fastening screw is fixed after the preassembly, and a fastening thread on the first assembly unit or on the second component for fixing the first assembly unit to the second component by means of the fastening screw. The fastening screw has at least two threaded areas for preassembly and for fastening with different thread pitches, wherein the preassembly thread and the fastening thread as well as the threaded areas are provided with different pitches and the second threaded area, which is used for fastening and is facing away from the screw head, has a smaller diameter than the threaded area that is used for the preassembly and is adjacent to the screw head.

  • Patent number: 6343812
Abstract: A process is disclosed for fixing a motor vehicle steering column. The, motor vehicle steering column is adjustable in the axial and/or vertical direction and has a steering shaft and a housing accommodating the steering shaft, on a bracket of the steering column of the motor vehicle, which bracket is a rigid part of the body. In the case of an accident, a positive-locking connection is established by pyrotechnical device between the adjustable steering column housing and the bracket of the steering column, at the moment of the impact of the motor vehicle against an obstacle. A device for carrying about the above-mentioned process is disclosed, in which at least one pyrotechnical module and at least one element, which can be controlled by the pyrotechnical module, are present for the positive-locking connection between the steering column and the bracket, which is a rigid part of the body.
