  • Patent number: 11062821
Abstract: Electrical power in a marine environment is generated using a power generator. The electrical power generated by the power generator is delivered using a power feed equipment. The delivery of the electrical power is via a power switching unit coupled to a submarine cable. The power switching unit selectively provides to at least a portion of the submarine cable the electrical power delivered by the power feed equipment.

  • Publication number: 20190140744
Abstract: The disclosed method may include, at a cable landing site for a subsea optical fiber, (1) receiving a plurality of optical signals carried over the subsea optical fiber, the plurality of optical signals including a first set of optical signals in a first wavelength band and at least one additional set of optical signals in at least one additional wavelength band that is different from the first wavelength band, (2) optically splitting the plurality of optical signals into the first set of optical signals and the additional set of optical signals, (3) introducing, after optically splitting the plurality of optical signals, the first set of optical signals onto a first terrestrial optical fiber, and (4) introducing, after optically splitting the plurality of optical signals, the additional set of optical signals onto at least one additional terrestrial optical fiber different from the first terrestrial optical fiber. Various other methods and systems are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 10114185
Abstract: Submarine optical fiber communications are described. A submarine optical fiber communications system can be configured to transmit optical signals within a first band of the electromagnetic spectrum in a first direction, and to transmit optical signals within a second band of the electromagnetic spectrum in a second direction. The bands can be C band, L band, or both bands.

  • Publication number: 20090285584
Abstract: An optical communications network that includes an unrepeatered optical segment that optically couples a remote terminal to a branching unit optically coupled within a series of repeatered optical segments. The unrepeatered optical segment may be quite long through the use of Raman amplification and/or remote optical pumped amplifiers thereby extending the reach of the unrepeatered optical segment. The branching unit or one of the repeaters may optionally be configured, perhaps remotely, to perform Raman amplification.
