Publication number: 20240168912Abstract: An embodiment of the present invention relates to physical interfaces, especially those used on consumer electronics devices. A processor, in which an embodiment of the disclosed invention is deployed, includes a physical interface for connecting to and communicating with a peripheral device, the peripheral device being configured to operate according to a standard communications protocol or to a different protocol which is adapted to have a more bandwidth-efficient performance. The processor detects which of the two protocols the attached peripheral device uses and configures the physical interface to operate according to the detected protocol. An embodiment of the invention allows for new, bandwidth-efficient communications protocols to be executed across existing standardized physical interface hardware, thereby allowing for easier acceptance of the new protocols within the consumer electronics industry.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 27, 2023Publication date: May 23, 2024Applicant: NAGRAVISION SARLInventors: Jérôme PERRINE, Hervé GOUPIL, Maurice VAN RIEK

Patent number: 11436350Abstract: Content source and sink devices and methods help to guard against compromising security of content transferred from a source device to a sink device, for example where a primary encryption mechanism protecting the content has been compromised. A content source device is configured to connect to a content sink device to transmit digital media content to the content sink device. The content source device includes a connection module configured to establish a connection to the sink device, encrypt a digital media content for transmission across the connection with a first cipher using a connection key, and transmit the encrypted digital media content to the sink device over the connection. The content source also includes a protection module configured to prevent the sink device from using the digital media content without authorisation.Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 2018Date of Patent: September 6, 2022Assignee: NAGRAVISION S.A.Inventors: Didier Hunacek, Herve Goupil

Patent number: 9647997Abstract: Systems and methods for implementing a Transport I/O system are described. Network encrypted content may be received by a device. The device may provide the network encrypted content to a secure processor, such as, for example, a smart card. The secure processor obtains a network control word that may be used to decrypt the network encrypted content. The secure processor may decrypt the network encrypted content to produce clear content. In embodiments, the secure processor may then use a local control word to generate locally encrypted content specific to the device. The device may then receive the locally encrypted content from the secure processor and proceed to decrypt the locally encrypted content using a shared local encryption key. The secure processor may connect to the device via a standard connection, such as via a USB 3.0 connector.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 2015Date of Patent: May 9, 2017Assignee: NagraStar, LLCInventors: Jerome Perrine, Hervé Goupil, Maurice Gerard van Riek, William Michael Beals, Nicolas Fischer, Benjamin Brian Ellis, Gregory Duval

Patent number: 6439464Abstract: A dual-mode IC is provided for operating in first mode such as an ISO mode in accordance with International Standards Organization 7816 (ISO 7816) protocol, and a second, non-ISO mode, such as a USB mode in accordance with Universal Serial Bus (USB) protocol. The dual-mode IC is preferably in a smart card and includes a microprocessor, a switching block, and an external interface. The external interface includes a voltage supply pad, a reference voltage pad, a reset pad, a clock pad and an input/output pad in accordance with the ISO 7816 protocol, and a D-plus pad and D-minus pad in accordance with the USB protocol. The IC further includes a mode configuration circuit for detecting a USB mode condition on at least one of the D-plus and D-minus pads, and configuring the IC in the ISO mode or the USB mode depending on the result. Once the IC is configured in a particular mode, it will operate in only that mode until the next power-on reset sequence.Type: GrantFiled: October 11, 2000Date of Patent: August 27, 2002Assignees: STMicroelectronics, Inc., Schlumberger Malco, Inc.Inventors: Serge F.
