Publication number: 20190340084Abstract: Certain embodiments disclosed herein reduce or eliminate a communication bottleneck at the storage manager by reducing communication with the storage manager while maintaining functionality of an information management system. In some implementations, a client obtains information for enabling a secondary storage job (e.g., a backup or restore) from a storage manager and stores the information (which may be referred to as job metadata) in a local cache. The client may then reuse the job metadata for multiple storage jobs reducing the frequency of communication with the storage manager. When a configuration of the information management system changes, or the availability of resources changes, the storage manager can push updates to the job metadata to the clients. Further, a client can periodically request updated job metadata from the storage manager ensuring that the client does not rely on out-of-date job metadata.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 2, 2018Publication date: November 7, 2019Inventors: Manoj Kumar Pradhan, Hemant Mishra, Dmitriy Borisovich Zakharkin, Sanath Kumar, Hetalkumar N. Joshi, Sunil Babu Telagamsetti, Divakar Radhakrishnan, Jayasree Yakkala, Rohit Sivadas, Pavan Kumar Reddy Bedadala, Gopikannan Venugopalsamy

Publication number: 20190278493Abstract: A scalable approach is disclosed for processing auxiliary-copy jobs in a storage management system by using distributed media agent resources instead of a centralized storage manager. Enhanced media agents coordinate and control auxiliary-copy jobs and tap the storage manager to reserve data streams and provide job-specific metadata on demand. An enhanced storage manager may initially select a media agent as “coordinator” to coordinate auxiliary-copy jobs with any number of other media agents, which act as “controllers.” A coordinator media agent is generally responsible for obtaining data stream reservation information from the storage manager and assigning auxiliary-copy jobs to respective controller media agents, based on the components involved in the respective reserved data streams.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 24, 2019Publication date: September 12, 2019Inventors: Hetalkumar N. JOSHI, Chandrashekar MARANNA, Manoj Kumar VIJAYAN

Publication number: 20190227879Abstract: A storage system according to certain embodiments includes a client-side repository (CSR). The CSR may communicate with a client at a higher data transfer rate than the rate used for communication between the client and secondary storage. During copy operations, for instance, some or all of the data being backed up or otherwise copied to secondary storage is stored in the CSR. During restore operations, copies of the data stored in the CSR is accessed from the CSR instead of from secondary storage, improving performance. Remaining data blocks not stored in the CSR can be restored from secondary storage.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 18, 2018Publication date: July 25, 2019Inventors: Manoj Kumar Vijayan, Deepak Raghunath Attarde, Hetalkumar N. Joshi

Publication number: 20190182325Abstract: A method and system for providing information management of data from hosted services receives information management policies for a hosted account of a hosted service, requests data associated with the hosted account from the hosted service, receives data associated with the hosted account from the hosted service, and provides a preview version of the received data to a computing device. In some examples, the system indexes the received data to associate the received data with a user of an information management system, and/or provides index information related to the received data to the computing device.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 14, 2019Publication date: June 13, 2019Inventors: Manoj Kumar Vijayan, Ho-Chi Chen, Deepak Raghunath Attarde, Hetalkumar N.
