Abstract: In an electronic device, its main unit has a data processing function and has a first and a second input means. The first input means is coupled to the main unit so as to be movable relative thereto between a first position in which the first input means overlaps with the main unit and a second position in which the first input means protrudes from the main unit. The first input means permits input operation in both of the first and second positions. The second input means is arranged in the main unit so as not to be movable relative thereto. The second input means is hidden by the first input means when the first input means is in the first position, and is exposed when the first input means is in the second position. The second input means permits input operation when it is exposed. The first input means is interchangeable with a third input means.

Abstract: In a data processing apparatus, data stored in a storage section are retrieved according to a desired retrieval condition so as to be displayed on a display section. When the retrieved data are displayed on the display section, not only the retrieved data but also the retrieval condition are displayed. As a result, both the retrieved results and the retrieval condition can be exactly recognized on the display screen at a glance.

Abstract: An electronic dictionary, in which a highlight style storage section in a ROM pre-stores display data of a variety of styles for the highlight display, such as a solid shade, an underline, and a frame all in red. When a user selects an item for highlight display through an input section, a central processing unit allocates a style that has been used least frequently to the selected item, and synthesizes display data associated with the allocated style. Subsequently, at least either the title or attribute information of the selected item (i.e., the resulting synthesized display data) is displayed on a liquid crystal display section.
