Upon detection of a change in the remaining sheet amount value, the changed remaining sheet amount value is acquired, and the remaining sheet count is changed to the changed remaining sheet amount value. If the sheet feed trays include any other one set to the same type and size of sheets as those of sheets to which the sheet feed tray in current use is set, when the remaining sheet count of the sheet feed tray in current use is changed to the changed remaining sheet amount value, the other sheet feed tray is selected for feeding sheets.
