    Abstract: A method for manufacturing a contact lens from contact lens raw material to a desired shape and an apparatus for carrying out the method by forming a base curve and bevel in accordance with design data. The radius of curvature of the base curve is measured and the radius of curvature data of a front curve for forming a contact lens having a desired power is calculated. The front curve together with a lentic curve, if required, is formed based upon the calculated shape data. A soft abrasive cloth is pressed against the work contact lens by fluid pressure while causing relative motion therebetween to polish the contact lens.
