  • Patent number: 5864753
Abstract: A radio station tuning system enables a radio receiver installed in a vehicle to be automatically tuned to a radio station offering a desired program. In the system, a controller receives data recognized by a speech recognizing unit and a current position of the vehicle detected by a navigation unit, provides the data to a communication unit, turns a radio receiver on or off, and tunes the radio receiver to a desired radio station. The communication unit sends data to a base station data via a vehicle telephone line. Receiving the data, the base station has access to its data base storing program data (e.g. broadcasting time, frequencies and so on), retrieves desired data, and transmits them to the vehicle. The controller automatically tunes the radio receiver to the desired radio station on the basis of the received data.

  • Patent number: 5796350
Abstract: A display (4) has its representation made by brightness of a backlight (7). A left flasher (SW 1) and a lighting (SW 3) supply on/off information to a dimming judgement unit (9). The dimming judgement unit (9) determines that when the lighting (SW 3) is turned on the environment is dark, and detects that a vehicle is going to make a left turn when the left flasher (SW 1) is turned on. It is further assumed according to the left turn of the vehicle that the driver's line of sight is turned to the left, and luminance of the backlight (7) is lowered. It is thus possible to prevent driver annoyance with a bright display (4), even when the display (4) comes within the driver's line of sight.

  • Patent number: 4942622
Abstract: Disclosed is a mobile radio-receiver system built-into an FM radio-receiver set installed in a vehicle, wherein a reproduction characteristic of a reception signal, such as a sound signal, having noise superimposed thereon is improved. The mobile radio-receiver system includes a space diversity unit which receives two reception signals and selects one reception signal on which noise is smaller than on the other reception signal, and a signal prediction unit which ignores the selected signal for a predetermined time in which large noise remains in the selected signal, and predicts a reception signal for the ignored selected signal for the predetermined time, so that a quality of a reproduction sound from the FM radio-receiver set is greatly improved.
