  • Patent number: 6212995
Abstract: A variable-displacement inclined plate compressor includes a crank chamber defined by a cylinder block and a front housing connected to the cylinder block. The cylinder block has cylinder bores, each opening toward the crank chamber. A rounded edge of each cylinder bore extends circumferentially around the cylinder bore at a crank chamber-side axial end of the cylinder bore. By the formation of the rounded edge of the cylinder bore, the sliding resistance of the piston may decrease. The decreased sliding resistance may prevent the piston coating from being scratched. Further, the decreased sliding resistance may decrease the load on the compressor, thereby achieving a smooth control of the inclination angle of the inclined plate.

  • Patent number: 5944156
Abstract: A power transmission mechanism which is adapted to completely interrupt power transmission when a torque exceeds a predetermined value, and which has a simple configuration and is manufactured at low cost, and which is bidirectionally rotatable. When a torque, whose magnitude is not more than the predetermined value, is transmitted from a pulley (1) to a shaft (4), each of three elastic members is accommodated in such a manner as to extend over both of a holding portion (3) of the pulley and a holding part (6) of a hub (5). When an excessive torque, whose magnitude exceeds the predetermined value, is applied to the pulley, deformation of each of the elastic members is gradually enhanced by a compressive force applied from the pulley in a radial direction, so that each of the elastic members moves in the radial direction. Then, each of the elastic members further advances and is detached from a corresponding one of the holding portion of the pulley.

  • Patent number: 4870894
Abstract: A wobble plate type compressor is disclosed which includes a compressor housing having a plurality of cylinders and a crank chamber adjacent the cylinders therein. A reciprocative piston is slidably fitted within each of the cylinders. A drive mechanism is coupled to the pistons. The drive mechanism includes a drive shaft which is rotatably supported in an opening of a front end plate and extends into the compressor housing. The drive shaft is supported by a radial bearing. The drive shaft is attached on to an end surface of a cam rotor at an inclindation angle .theta..sub.1 and rotates therewith. The angle .theta..sub.1 is determined so that under severe operating conditions the interior surface of the radial bearing and the exterior surface of the drive shaft are uniformly contacted with each other to prevent damages due to partial contact. In alternative embodiments, the radial bearing is formed with a conical inner surface to insure uniform contact between it and the exterior surface of the drive shaft.

  • Patent number: 4697992
Abstract: A refrigerant compressor includes a piston with two circumferential grooves on the outer surface of the piston, one of the grooves being located near the top and the other near the bottom. Conical piston rings made of plastic are disposed in the grooves. The piston rings, which have an outer diameter greater than that of the piston, have a curved surface shaped so that the outer diameter of the curved surface at one axial end of the piston ring is smaller than that at the other axial end. This unique arrangement of the curved conical seals reduces the loss of horsepower in motor driven refrigerant compressors by providing improved sealing between the piston and cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4594055
Abstract: A piston assembly for a reciprocating piston type compressor includes a piston slidably disposed within aluminum alloy cylinders. The pistons have two annular grooves provided toward opposite ends on their outer peripheral surfaces. A conical shaped piston ring formed of resin and having an outer diameter larger than the outer diameter of the piston is disposed in each groove. The conical shaped piston ring creates a gap between the piston and cylinder to prevent direct contact between the piston and cylinder to thereby avoid abnormal wearing while effectively maintaining the flow of lubricating oil from the cylindrical chamber to the crank chamber.
