  • Publication number: 20130142029
Abstract: An optical information recording medium has a first information recording layer (20) and a second information recording layer (40) each of which includes (i) a group of pre-pits (31, 51) constituting marks (32, 52) and spaces (33, 53) and (ii) a super-resolution film (23, 43), the marks (32, 52) and the spaces (33, 53) having different lengths, an average length of a smallest mark that is smallest in length and a smallest space that is smallest in length being less than or equal to a resolution limit of a reproduction optical system for reproducing information recorded on the first information recording layer (20) and the second information recording layer (40), the group of pre-pits (31, 51) being formed so that a push-pull signal for the reproduction optical system to reproduce the information recorded by the group of pre-pits is negative in polarity. This provides an inexpensive and high-capacity multilayer optical information recording medium based on a super-resolution technology.

  • Patent number: 8441905
Abstract: This invention allows super-resolution reproduction with which a better bER value is attainable, when information is recorded by a random pattern including a mark length not longer than a resolution limit, by use of a highly versatile signal decoding method. Information is recorded as marks and spaces coded by RLL(1,7) modulation, which each of the marks and spaces have one of a plurality of lengths, and 2T marks and 2T spaces of the marks and spaces being formed are shorter than 0.12 ?m. An information recording layer (20) includes a reproduction film (21) and a reflective film (22) which are provided in this order from a side from which reproducing light is incident, which reproduction film is made of (i) zinc oxide, (ii) strontium titanate, (iii) titanium oxide, (iv) cerium oxide, or (v) a material including at least one of the (i) through (iv), and which reflective film is made of tantalum or titanium.

  • Patent number: 8437243
Abstract: An optical information recording medium (1) includes on a substrate (50), a ROM layer (20), a RE layer (40), an intermediate layer (30) separating the ROM layer (20) and the RE layer (40), and a light transmitting layer (10) provided farthest from the substrate (50). The RE layer (40) is an information recording layer provided most farthest from the light transmitting layer (10), and is a recording layer of BCA recorded in a format easily determinable as compared to an information recording format used in the ROM layer (20), and antifouling property of a surface of the light transmitting layer (10) is set based on the RE layer (40). This makes it easy for the recording and reproducing apparatus to confirm a disc type, allows for sharing one recording and reproducing apparatus with other types of optical discs, and simplifies the disc production.

  • Patent number: 8400896
Abstract: An invention disclosed includes a layer number obtaining section (222) for determining which information storage layer (L1) has been accessed and a layer type identifying section (223) for identifying a type of the information storage layer (L1) determined by the layer number obtaining section (222). With the configuration, even in a case where an information recording and reproducing apparatus accesses an information storage layer different from an intended information storage layer by false operation or the like, it is still possible to dissolve mismatching between a recording or reproduction control scheme being set up and a recording or reproduction control scheme suitable for the information storage layer thus accessed.
