  • Patent number: 7033031
Abstract: A light guiding member (40) for reflecting therein light entering through a light entering surface (40a) several times to cause light having a uniform illumination distribution to outgo from a light outgoing surface (40b) is inserted into an optical path between a lamp source (10) and a reflection type display device (80). The light outgoing surface (40b) of the light guiding member (40) is formed in a dissimilar shape with an image display region of the reflection type display device (80), and a region irradiated with light in the image display region of the reflection type display device (80) is formed smaller than the image display region. This prevents a whitening phenomenon in a projected image undisplay region and improves video effects given to viewers as well as effectively utilizing light emitted from a light source for images to be projected to display projected images brightly.

  • Patent number: 6799852
Abstract: An image display projector includes a lens element for focusing a light beam from a lamp light source, a reflecting mirror for reflecting a light beam emitted from the lens element, an elliptical mirror for reflecting a light beam emitted from the reflecting mirror, a light valve for modulating a light beam reflected by the elliptical mirror, thereby forming an image light, and a projection lens for projecting the image light onto a screen. In this image display projector, a light focusing point, where the light beam emitted from the lens element is focused, is symmetric to one of the two focal points of the elliptical mirror with respect to the reflecting mirror, and the center of an entry pupil of the projection lens is symmetric to the second focal point of the elliptical mirror with respect to the light valve.

  • Patent number: 6568810
Abstract: An illumination optical system comprises a first multi-lens array, a second multi-lens array, and a polarization conversion module. An optical modulation device of a projector is irradiated with light beams that are generated by passing incident light from a light source through the first multi-lens array, the second multi-lens array, and the polarization conversion module. The number of the first lens cells is greater than that of the polarization conversion units in a direction of an arrangement of the polarization conversion units. Further, each of particular ones among the polarization conversion units corresponds to at least two first lens cells in the direction of the arrangement of the polarization conversion units.

  • Patent number: 6348993
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a translucent screen and a rear projection display apparatus, onto which an image light emitted from an image source is projected, that includes first and second screen members that expand and contract with variations in ambient temperature and humidity. The second screen member has a relatively lower rigidity than the first screen member. The second screen member is secured on the first screen member so that the second screen member is held under tension by the first screen member at normal ambient temperature and humidity.

  • Patent number: 6038070
Abstract: A permeable image display screen having a lenticular lens sheet including a plurality of semi-cylindrical lens portions and a plurality of non-focusing portions. The lens portions are arranged in parallel with spaces on a side of an image light emission surface of the lenticular lens sheet and contain diffusion particles for diffusing image light incident from an image light incidence surface of the lenticular lens sheet. Each of the non-focusing portions, through which the image light does not pass, is arranged on the side of the image light emission surface and between two adjacent lens portions. A glossy permeable layer is provided on the image light emission surface of the lenticular lens sheet.
