Abstract: A disc reproducing device and a disc reproducing method for reproducing a disc-shaped recording medium (combined disc) on which first data to be reproduced at a first reproducing rate and second data to be reproduced at a second reproducing rate faster than the first reproducing rate are recorded, wherein the first data and second data are recorded in separate areas on the disc. The disc is rotatable at a second reproducing rate. Responsive to a readout command, data is read out from a desired position on the disc, and output data is checked as to whether it is the first data or the second data. If the data is the first data, the output data is stored in the buffer memory unit at the second reproducing rate. On the other hand, the first data of the buffer memory unit is read out at a first reproducing rate, while the second data is accessed if the first data is not being read out from the disc.

Abstract: A disk drive capable of determining the diameter of the currently loaded disk in a short time without the use of additional attachments such as optical sensors. Servo gains are first set to permit rotation of a 12-cm CD, and the servo is turned on. The CD is rotated at a steady rotational speed regardless of its diameter. The servo is turned off when a sub-code synchronizing signal is detected from the CD. Acceleration pulses are generated to start accelerating the spindle motor simultaneously with the starting of a timer. The timer is stopped when the next sub-code synchronizing signal is detected, and the servo is again turned on. If the value on the timer is longer than a reference time, the loaded CD is found to be a 12-cm CD and the appropriate servo gains are set for the 12-cm CD; if the timer value is shorter than the reference time, the CD is found to be an 8-cm CD and the servo gains are set accordingly.

Abstract: An apparatus for inserting into a hollow carton a partition lattice which is assembled from slitted longitudinal partition panels and slitted transverse partition panels by placing the slitted portions of the partition panels over one another to produce a lattice-like assembly of partitions. The apparatus has a feeder for feeding folded partition lattices over-lapping one on the other in a vertical state onto a table, towards the front end of said table, a device for opening the folded partition lattices, a lifting means at the front of the opening device for lifting the opened partition lattice as the lifting means rises, a transfer means for transferring the lifted partition lattice to a position right above a hollow carton waiting to receive the partitions, a means for inserting the partition lattice into the carton and for releasing the partition lattice from the transfer means.
