    Abstract: The present invention proposes a new procedure about a photolithographic method for forming a black pattern such as a black matrix. The present invention relates to a black resist composition suitable for this new process and excellent in light-blocking effect. The present invention relates to a black resist composition including a near-infrared-permeable black pigment (A), a sensitizing dye (B) having absorption in a near-infrared region, a radical polymerization initiator or acid generator (C), and a binder resin (D) as essential components. The black pigment (A) here used is preferably a lactam-based pigment, a perylene-based pigment, and/or an azomethine-based pigment, and a cyanine dye, a squarylium dye, and/or a phthalocyanine dye are/is contained as suitable sensitizing dye(s), together with the black pigment. The present invention relates to a novel photolithographic process of a black pattern with application of near-infrared light.
