  • Patent number: 5505898
Abstract: A plastic pipe (10) includes a pipe body (12), and, at an end of the pipe body (12), there is formed a socket which is provided in the inner surface or in the vicinity of the inner surface thereof with a heat generating unit (18). In coupling, an outer peripheral surface of an end of a pipe (28) to be coupled is scraped by a scraper or the like, and the end is inserted into the socket. Then, an electric current is supplied to the heat generating unit (18) such that a heat is generated by the same. Then, synthetic resin of the coupling surfaces of the pipe (28) and the socket and synthetic resin disposed thereabout are fused, so that the both members are fusion-coupled to each other.

  • Patent number: 5462314
Abstract: An electro-fusion fitting includes a body which is provided with a heater including a magnetic alloy unit having a predetermined Curie temperature in the vicinity of a joint surface thereof in a manner that a surface of the heater is exposed on the joint surface. The joint surface of the body is brought into contact with a joint surface of a member to be coupled and, if a high-frequency current is applied to the magnetic alloy unit by electromagnetic induction, the magnetic alloy unit generates heat, and a temperature of the magnetic alloy unit is kept at the predetermined Curie temperature due to a temperature self-control function thereof. Therefore, if the Curie temperature is set at a fusion temperature, the joint surfaces of the body and the member to be coupled are coupled to each other.

  • Patent number: 5352871
Abstract: The invention provides a system and method for joining plastic members including induction heaters fabricated from a conductive wire coated with a ferromagnetic material and providing ratios of at least 4 to 1 between the areas over the spaces between wires and the area of the wires surrounding the open spaces; the heaters being located preferably between plastic members to be joined. The heaters may be located adjacent the two ends of a plastic connector adapted to receive a pipe in at least one and probably two ends with the heaters being activated preferably by induction heating to produce welding of the plastics to one another. One form of heater is fabricated on a hollow cylindrical mandrel having helical grooves in which the wire is wound and having radial holes arranged in axially extending rows spaced circumferentially about the mandrel so the axially extending wires may be spot welded to the wires in the helical grooves at each hole.

  • Patent number: 5338920
Abstract: An electro-fusion fitting includes a body, and a magnetic alloy member which is continuous in the axial direction is embedded in the vicinity of a joint surface of the body. A shield member is arranged on the outer surface of the body in a portion where a cold zone is to be formed. The joint surface of the body and a joint surface of a member to be joined are brought into contact with each other. When a high frequency current is applied to the magnetic alloy member from a high frequency power supply by electromagnetic induction in this state, the magnetic alloy member generates heat, so that the body and the member to be joined are fused, and joined to each other. Since the shield member shields the electromagnetic induction, the magnetic alloy member in a portion where the shield member is provided does not generate heat, so that the cold zone is formed in the portion.
