  • Publication number: 20070263179
Abstract: A projection type display system able to suppress an increase of a outer size of a set, able to improve the contrast, and excellent in silence, having light modulating units 122 (R, G, B) for modulating incident illumination lights based on input image information and emitting the result, an illumination optical system 109 for making illumination lights from a light source 101 strike light modulating units, and a projection optical system 125 for projecting the illumination lights emitted from the light modulating units, wherein a variable opening aperture system 200 is arranged in the vicinity of a pupil position of the projection optical system 125, and the aperture system 200 is arranged so as to match contrast characteristics of the light modulating units and an aperture shape at the time of opening/closing the aperture.

  • Publication number: 20020001131
Abstract: Disclosed is a projection display for projecting an image displayed on an image display element on a screen using light rays generated by a light source, wherein sheet-type polarized light separating mirrors each having a plane tilted at an angle of 10 to 30° with respect to an optical axis of the light source are disposed between the image display element and the light source, whereby the projection display can be miniaturized with the reduced cost.

  • Patent number: 6144492
Abstract: An optical block, which may be of a small size, for applying light efficiently to a display device such as a liquid crystal panel, and a display apparatus. The optical block (1) has a polarizing beam splitter (3) mounted on baseboard (2) at a predetermined angle with respect to light applied from a light source (10), for passing a P wave toward an exit side and reflecting an S wave, reflecting device (4) mounted on the baseboard (2) for reflecting the reflected S wave toward the exit side, and plane-of-polarization rotating device (5) mounted on the baseboard (2) for rotating the plane of polarization of the S wave reflected toward the exit side.

  • Patent number: 6095654
Abstract: A projection type display apparatus which allows a reduction in size and which enables images to be clearly projected. In a projection type display apparatus 1 in which an image displayed by an image display device 53 is projected onto a screen by using light from a light source 3, the light from the light source 3 is transmitted through an optical element as illuminating light and guided along a first optical axis OP1 before it is reflected by a first reflecting mirror; and the illuminating light is reflected by a second reflecting mirror and guided toward the image display device 53 along a second optical axis OP2. The first optical axis OP1 and the second optical axis OP2 are arranged at different positions and parallel to each other. Arranged in the first optical axis OP1 is an optical element for concentrating the intensity distribution of the illuminating light, and the optical element is formed by two-dimensionally arranging a plurality of unit lenses.
