  • Patent number: 6337566
Abstract: The present invention relates to a continuous casting apparatus for continuously casting molten metal. More particularly, the present invention provides a method and an apparatus for controlling a surface level of molten metal in a mold when molten metal is continuously cast. The continuous casting apparatus of the invention comprises: a mold in which molten metal is poured and solidified; and an eddy current type molten metal surface level sensor for detecting a molten metal surface level in the mold. In the continuous casting apparatus having an electromagnetic coil arranged in such a manner that the electromagnetic coil surrounds the mold and also having an electric power supply for generating a pulse magnetic field from the electromagnetic coil, there are provided a mechanism for taking out a pulse trigger signal corresponding to the magnetic field from the electric power supply, and a mechanism for controlling a time of detecting a surface of molten metal by the molten metal level sensor.

  • Patent number: 5757363
Abstract: A proposed computer input device for transmitting the displacement data representing the quantity and direction of the movement of a cursor to a computer is operable in a narrow space and easily portable. The input device is provided with a pressure sensitive pad composed of a conductive layer formed on the underside of a flexible sheet and a resistor layer formed on the upper face of a substrate at a predetermined interval from the conductive layer. When the flexible sheet is depressed, the conductive layer contacts the resistor layer at the depressed position. In a control circuit connected to the conductive layer and the resistor layer, when the contact of the conductive layer with the resistor layer is detected, a voltage of 5V is applied alternately in a horizontal direction and a vertical direction on the surface of the resistor layer. The depressed position on the pressure sensitive pad is sequentially computed from the voltage value produced on the conductive layer when the voltage is applied.

  • Patent number: 5296989
Abstract: A magnetic head comprising a magnetic path and a vertically magnetizable film. The magnetic path contains a first gap facing a magnetic recording medium and a second gap. The vertically magnetizable film is formed across the second gap on the principal plane or outer circumference of the magnetic path. A linearly polarized light beam is irradiated onto the vertically magnetizable film and the resulting reversal of magnetization in the vertically magnetizable film is detected through the use of a polar Kerr effect. This scheme allows data to be reproduced with sufficient sensitivity from tracks of very small widths.
