    Abstract: A capacitor includes a metal case and a terminal plate. The metal case accommodates a capacitor element together with a driving electrolyte and is joined to one of the electrodes of the capacitor element at its inner bottom surface. The terminal plate is joined to the other electrode at its inner surface so as to seal the opening of the metal case. The terminal plate is provided with a pressure regulating valve also functioning as a driving-electrolyte filling hole. The pressure regulating valve includes a ring-shaped elastic member which is pressed into the wall formed on the terminal plate.

    Abstract: The present invention provides an electrode material for an electric double layer capacitor which can provide an electric double layer capacitor having a low internal resistance and a large capacitance, a process for producing the same, and an electrode for an electric double layer capacitor and an electric double layer capacitor using the same. The electrode material of the present invention is characterized by comprising a carbonaceous material and an activated carbon, the carbonaceous material obtained by thermal-treating or activating a fullerene-containing soot or an extracted residue obtained by substantially extracting at least a part of fullerene from a fullerene-containing soot using a solvent. The electrode for an electric double layer capacitor and the electric double layer capacitor of the present invention is characterized by using the electrode material.

The electrolyte comprises at least one quaternary ammonium salt of aliphatic saturated dicarboxylic acid having from 6 to 10 carbon atoms in total or a quaternary ammonium salt of glutaric acid, dissolved in a solvent comprised of an aliphatic polyol. When applied to an electrolytic capacitor, the electrolyte ensures improvements in loss characteristic and high temperature characteristics with time. Thus, the capacitor has a prolonged life.
