  • Patent number: 5000148
Abstract: An ignition control system and an ignition control method for an internal combustion engine for a vehicle which are capable of permitting the internal combustion engine to exhibit ideal ignition characteristics optimum for each of gear positions of a gear transmission of the engine. The ignition characteristics of the internal combustion engine optimum for each of the gear positions are set depending upon the gear position discriminated by a gear position discriminator, to thereby determine the ignition position according to the so-set ignition characteristics. Such construction permits the ignition characteristics to be changed over depending upon the gear position, thus, the ignition of the engine may be carried out constantly at the optimum ignition position.

  • Patent number: 4958608
Abstract: An ignition system for an internal combustion engine is widely known which includes a primary current control switch circuit adapted to be turned off at an ignition position to interrupt flowing of a primary current through an ignition coil, to thereby induce a high voltage for ignition across the ignition coil. Continuation of the flow of the primary current causes an increase in power consumption and generation of heat from the ignition coil. An ignition system of the present invention utilizes charging and discharging of a control capacitor to permit control over the time for which the primary current is flowing to be accomplished with a simple structure. A discharge resistor which is arranged in parallel with the control capacitor carries out discharge of the control capacitor to interrupt the flow of the primary current when the internal combustion engine is stopped.

  • Patent number: 4651706
Abstract: An ignition system for an internal combustion engine is disclosed which is adapted to carry out the comparison between an integrating voltage of a first integrating circuit and that of a second integrating circuit by means of a comparator to obtain advance characteristics. An ignition operation allowable interval detection signal generating circuit of the ignition system comprises a charge control transistor turned on when a first pulse signal is generated, a signal accumulating capacitor charged to a given voltage through the transistor, and a discharge control transistor for momentarily discharging the capacitor when a second pulse signal is generated. Such construction of the detection signal generating circuit allows the structure of the ignition system to be significantly simplified.

  • Patent number: 4207515
Abstract: A battery charger including a hybrid bridge rectifier circuit adapted to rectify the output of an AC generator to charge a battery is characterized in that the rectifier circuit includes thyristors having the anodes connected to each other to form the negative output terminal of the rectifier circuit and diodes having the cathodes connected to each other to form the positive output terminal of the rectifier circuit. The anodes of the diodes are respectively connected to the cathodes of the thyristors, and the connecting junctions form the input terminals of the rectifier circuit. There is also provided a control circuit adapted to couple the gates of the thyristors to the positive input terminal of the rectifier circuit.

  • Patent number: 4177415
Abstract: A voltage regulator for use with a polyphase magneto generator and in combination with a rectifier circuit provided to rectify the output of the generator to charge a battery, comprises at least two thyristors having the anodes respectively connected to the output terminals of the generator having phases adjacent to each other, having the cathodes connected to the negative output terminal of the rectifier circuit, and having the gates connected to each other. A trigger device is adapted to supply gate signals to the gates of the thyristors when the voltage of the output terminal having a phase in advance of the phases of the output terminals to which the anodes of the thyristors are connected exceeds a predetermined value. As the battery terminal voltage is excessive the thyristors are rendered conductive to short-circuit the output of the generator.

  • Patent number: 4138634
Abstract: An automatic voltage regulator for an excited AC generator comprising at least one controlled rectifier for conducting the field current of the generator, a trigger signal supplying means for supplying a trigger signal to the controlled rectifier when the controlled rectifier is forward biased, a voltage detection circuit for detecting the output voltage of the generator, an inhibiting circuit for inhibiting turn-on of the controlled rectifier when the instantaneous value of the voltage detection circuit exceeds a predetermined voltage, characterized in that the voltage detection circuit comprises a phase shifting circuit receiving and shifting the phase of the output voltage of the generator. The amount of phase shift may be selected so that the inhibiting operation terminates and hence the turn-on of the controlled rectifier is effected at any angle within a wide range to adjust to the load being energized.

  • Patent number: 4132208
Abstract: An ignition system for an internal combustion engine wherein ignition timing is retarded when the engine speed exceeds a predetermined value. The ignition angle retardation is effected by an angle retarding circuit for by-passing at least part of an AC ignition signal. The angle retarding circuit is actuated responsive to an output of a phase-advanced signal generating circuit for generating an AC signal in advance in phase of the ignition signal. The utilization of the phase-advanced signal generating circuit enables the ignition angle to be varied over a wide angle.
