    Abstract: A helical scan digital data reproduce apparatus of the invention provides absolute searching of a desired program with the program numbers recorded on a helical track during travelling a recording medium at a high seed in the fast-forward or rewinding mode because the apparatus calculates the program number by counting the index signals recorded on a fixed track during searching. If the program number has not been detected because just after putting a cassette tape, the apparatus once reproduce the magnetic tape to read the program number before winding the magnetic tape.
