  • Patent number: 8234057
Abstract: An inter-vehicle communication apparatus mounted to a subject vehicle is disclosed. The apparatus includes: reception section receiving information about a peripheral vehicle from the peripheral vehicle; a detection section configured to identify the peripheral vehicle that satisfies a predetermined condition as a same directing peripheral vehicle based on the information about the peripheral vehicle; a determination section configured to determine whether the subject vehicle is one of a lead vehicle and a tail vehicle in a group of vehicles including the subject vehicle and the same directing peripheral vehicle; and a transmission control section configured to control the transmission section based on the determination by the determination section.

  • Patent number: 8130092
Abstract: An inter-vehicle communication device for a vehicle includes: a transmission element for transmitting information about the vehicle to other vehicles with a predetermined period; a transmission controller for controlling the transmission element; and a detector for detecting a state of an indicator in the vehicle. The indicator informs a person around the vehicle about a state and existence of the vehicle, and the transmission controller controls the transmission element to transmit the information with a period shorter than the predetermined period when the detector detects that the indicator functions.

  • Publication number: 20090198412
Abstract: In a vehicle-to-vehicle communications apparatus mounted in a subject vehicle, the intersection nearest to the subject vehicle is obtained among intersections which exist in the heading direction of the subject vehicle. The intersection nearest to a peripheral vehicle is obtained among intersections which exist in the heading direction of the peripheral vehicle. When both the above intersections are identical to each other, a transmission cycle is shortened in the vehicle-to-vehicle communications apparatus of the subject vehicle. In contrast, when both are not identical, the transmission cycle is not changed. Such a configuration enables each of multiple vehicles to recognize mutual existence at an early stage when the vehicles approach the same intersection at the same time. Further, such a configuration helps prevent useless communications traffics from arising when only one vehicle approaches an intersection.
