Patent number: 8953216Abstract: An original reader capable of being downsized without requiring a large-capacity image memory. A conveying path conveys an original. Sensors are arranged on the conveying path, for detecting the conveyed original. CCD line sensors read the conveyed original. A CPU of the image reader decides the size of the conveyed original based on the results of detection by the sensors. An image memory stores image data output from the line sensors. The CPU transmits the decided original size and the stored image data to a controller. When the CPU cannot decide the original size at a predetermined timing, it transmits one of original size candidates to the controller, as a provisional original size. When the size of the original decided afterwards is different from the provisional original size, the CPU retransmits the decided size of the original.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 2013Date of Patent: February 10, 2015Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Kenji Morita, Yohei Katto, Satoshi Seki, Akiko Kanno, Hidenori Sunada, Asahiro Nakayoshi

Patent number: 8953231Abstract: Provided is a document reading apparatus capable of suppressing a shock that may occur when a trailing edge of a tabbed sheet passes through a roller pair. In an image reading section, when a document to be read is the tabbed sheet, a timing to start separation of the roller pair in response to detection of a trailing edge of the document is delayed by a time period corresponding to a tab length with respect to the timing to start separation when a document other than the tabbed sheet is conveyed. Thus, it is possible to prevent the shock when the trailing edge of the tabbed sheet passes through the roller pair, and to thereby suppress image reading failure due to the shock.Type: GrantFiled: December 11, 2013Date of Patent: February 10, 2015Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Asahiro Nakayoshi, Kenji Morita, Yohei Katto, Akiko Kanno, Hidenori Sunada, Satoshi Seki

Publication number: 20140043664Abstract: A sheet conveyance device is capable of detecting a sheet length in a conveyance direction correctly, and of detecting a length of a non-standard size sheet correctly. A detection unit detects front and rear ends of a sheet conveyed with a conveyance unit. A measurement unit measures sheet length in a conveyance direction based on a detection result of the detection unit. An acquisition unit acquires a reference length of the sheet. A computation unit computes a correction value that is used to correct a length measured by the measurement unit based on length measured and the reference length acquired in a correction mode. A storage unit stores the correction value computed. A determination unit determines sheet length corrected based on the correction value and the length measured at the time of conveyance of a sheet in a mode other than correction mode.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 1, 2013Publication date: February 13, 2014Applicant: CANON KABUSHIKI KAISHAInventor: Hidenori Sunada

Patent number: 8328178Abstract: A sheet conveying system which is capable of preventing a jammed sheet from being mixed with processed sheets, reducing waste in sheets and toners, and further alleviating the user's operations, when jamming has occurred during passing of a sheet between respective sheet conveying devices of upstream and downstream apparatuses. A puncher control section of a puncher as an upstream apparatus of the system issues a passing completion notification as to the passing of a sheet to a staple stacker control section of a staple stacker as a downstream apparatus of the system. Upon reception of the notification, when the staple stacker control section determines that the parameter of auxiliary information of the notification indicates an abnormal discharge of the sheet from the puncher, the staple stacker stops the conveyance of the sheet.Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 2011Date of Patent: December 11, 2012Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Toshiyuki Miyake, Mitsuhiko Sato, Ichiro Sasaki, Manabu Yamauchi, Naoto Watanabe, Akinobu Nishikata, Takayuki Fujii, Hidenori Sunada, Shunsuke Nishimura, Takashi Yokoya

Patent number: 8303229Abstract: A bookbinding apparatus which makes it possible to shorten a time period required to heat an adhesive when the power of the bookbinding apparatus is turned on again. A glue preparation section heats glue. A glue applying section applies the heated glue to a recording sheet bundle. A CPU of the bookbinding apparatus determines at the power-on of the apparatus whether or not there is a recording sheet bundle to which glue is to be applied within the apparatus. When there is no such recording sheet bundle, the glue applying section applies glue to a recording sheet bundle after the temperature of the glue has reached a first target temperature, whereas when there is such a recording sheet bundle, the glue applying section applies the glue to the recording sheet bundle after the glue temperature has reached a second target temperature lower than the first target temperature.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 2009Date of Patent: November 6, 2012Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Hidenori Sunada, Mitsuhiko Sato

Patent number: 7983584Abstract: An image forming apparatus in which surplus tabbed sheets produced in one set of output can be utilized for the next set of output, without requiring a user to perform a laborious task. In the image forming apparatus, a CPU calculates the number of tabbed sheet groups which will be used for one set of image formation and the number of tabbed sheets which will be used from among the last tabbed sheet group. Among the last tabbed sheet group, surplus tabbed sheets which will be left unused in the one set of image formation are determined. If the number of tabbed sheets is equal to or less than the number of the surplus tabbed sheets, at least one of the surplus tabbed sheets is used to carry out two sets of image formation.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 2008Date of Patent: July 19, 2011Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Kiyoshi Okamoto, Mitsuhiko Sato, Yuichiro Maeda, Kiyoharu Kakomura, Hidenori Sunada
