    Abstract: A liquid developer for electrophotography or electrostatic recording includes colored resin particles, which are constituted by at least a pigment, a binder resin containing acid group-containing resin, a basic group-containing pigment dispersion agent, and a granulating aid, with the colored resin particles formed in an insulating solvent by utilizing the coacervation method. A carbodiimide compound having at least one carbodiimide group is used as the granulating aid, with the ratio of the number of active hydrogens in the acid group-containing resin to the number of carbodiimide groups in the carbodiimide compound adjusted to 1:0.01 or more but less than 1:1.00, and the colored resin particles are dispersed in the insulating solvent by a particle dispersion agent. The liquid developer has good uniformity, preservation stability, fixing property, and electrophoretic migration property of particles.

    Abstract: An annular groove, in which a lower end of a boot is fitted, is formed in an outer periphery of an open end of a housing so as to extend in a circumferential direction of the housing. The annular groove is defined by a cylindrical face, an upper inner wall, and a lower inner wall. By fitting a clip onto a cylindrical portion of the lower end of the boot, the cylindrical portion is pushed against the cylindrical face, and an inner end portion and a folded-back portion are pushed against the upper inner wall and the lower inner wall, respectively. The inner end portion has an annular protrusion that is engaged with the upper inner wall and elastically contracted when the lower end of the boot is fitted in the annular groove.
