  • Patent number: 6716213
Abstract: To avoid requiring physicians to machine a connecting apparatus in the operating room, and to easily and accurately attach and secure rods and bone screws through the appropriate combination of connectors; a feature made possible by multiple connectors, each of which includes a through-hole through which a rod can be inserted, a short rod having the same diameter as the rod, with the short rod being directed in a direction substantially orthogonal to an axial direction of the through-hole and having a length required f or the short rod to be inserted and screwed into the through-hole, and an internal thread portion that allows an external thread member to be screwed therein, with the external thread member locking the rod or short rod inserted into the through-hole; and in which configuration a first connector can be set on the rod by inserting the rod into the through-hole therein, the short rod of a second connector can be arranged in a rod-attaching portion of a bone screw, and the short rod of the first c

  • Patent number: 5876403
Abstract: The bone-fixing devices which are designed to allow for a freer assembly of the parts which are mounted to maintain plurality of bones in a specified position relationship, and also call for only one or two parts to be tightened to assemble all parts into the whole system. A pedicle 10 to be implanted into a bone is connected by using a connector 20 with a shaft 30 that serves as a reference to position the bones. In order to ensure that the pedicle 10 is connected with the fixture 20, a shaft 12 is supported in a fork 21 formed at the end of the fixture 20, said short shaft 12 is fitted into a concave 11 formed at the head of the pedicle 10, and said short shaft 12 is fixed at the head of the pedicle with a retaining screw 13 so that the fixture 20 is mounted rotatably about the short shaft with reference to the pedicle 10.
