  • Patent number: 5989156
Abstract: A lock-up clutch slip control system for controlling a lock-up clutch, which is arranged in parallel with a hydraulic power transmission for connecting a prime mover and a speed change unit, selectively into a slip state. It is decided whether or not a slip control of changing the lock-up clutch from a complete apply state to a slip state is to be executed according to the operation of lowering the output of the prime mover. The output of said prime mover is changed to suppress the output fluctuation of the prime mover when it is decided that the slip control of the lock-up clutch is to be executed.

  • Patent number: 5921886
Abstract: In an automatic transmission, torque shocks are effectively reduced in specific downshifting conditions where relatively strong engine braking occurs as a result of downshifting. When a downshift command to the automatic transmission is detected when an accelerator pedal is not depressed, a valve opening command is issued to a throttle valve so that engine output will have increased by the time the downshifting action of the automatic transmission actually begins, ignition timing is delayed so that an increase in engine output resulting from the opening of the throttle valve by a throttle valve control means is offset for a period starting at the time the engine output actually increases as a result of the opening of the throttle valve by the throttle valve control means and ending at the time the downshifting action of the automatic transmission actually beings, and the ignition timing delaying is cancelled upon initiation of the downshifting action of the automatic transmission.

  • Patent number: 5195035
Abstract: In controlling an automatic transmission in a vehicle by a combination of an electronic computer system and a hydraulic actuation system according to a principle of feedback control so that the electronic computer system computes a target control state for the hydraulic actuation system and the hydraulic actuation system is operated according to a difference between the target control state and a current control state thereof, the difference is modified by an amount which is decreased along with lapse of time so that the delay in the operation of the hydraulic actuation system is compensated for by a simulation that at the start of control the difference is beforehand increased for an amount which is gradually cancelled by a delay function of the difference itself as the delay in the operation of the hydraulic actuation system disappears. The difference may further be modified so that the modification is started with a time lag. The difference may further be modified by the rate of change of itself.

  • Patent number: 5191814
Abstract: A control system in an automatic transmission for controlling the change-over of the three speed change patterns which are a speed change pattern having a cross gear ratio on a low speed side, a speed change pattern having a cross gear ratio on a high speed side and a speed change pattern having a normal gear ratio. According to this controlling system, when one of the three speed change pattern is selected based one a throttle opening and a vehicle speed, and when it is judged that the gear shift from a speed range in the present speed change pattern to a speed range in the selected speed change pattern falls under on of prohibited conditions, e.g., requiring engagement and/or disengagement of three or more frictional engaging elements for the gear shift, the gear shift is performed using a temporary speed change pattern (including the present speed change pattern) including a speed range not falling under the prohibited conditions.

  • Patent number: 5165308
Abstract: A shift control system and method for use in an automatic transmission includes a plurality of frictional engagement elements and a gear train settable to a plurality of speed stages of different gear ratios according to the engagement/release states of the frictional engagement means and having a plurality of different engagement/release combinations for the frictional engagement elements to set a predetermined one of the speed stages. A shift decision unit decides a shift to be performed. A speed stage selection determines a speed stage to be set after the shift. An engagement/release pattern selects and outputs one of the engagement/release combinations of the frictional engagement elements for setting a speed in which either the current speed stage or the speed stage to be set after the shift is the predetermined speed stage, wherein two or less of the frictional engagement elements have their engagement/release states switched during the shift.

  • Patent number: 5113725
Abstract: A hydraulic control device is provided for automatic transmission in a vehicle such as an automobile. The transmission includes a combination of a gear mechanism and friction engaging devices which allows engagement of a particular first speed stage, such as first gear, and a particular second speed stage, such as second gear, according to selective engagement and disengagement of the friction engaging devices. Engine braking is not provided in the first speed stage, but is provided in the second speed stage when an under-D range is selected by the manual shift valve. Low coast upshifting is thus performed more smoothly. The shift from the first speed stage to the second speed stage is also completed more slowly than any other shift.

  • Patent number: 5078028
Abstract: A primary regulator valve has a cutback port which regulates a line pressure to increase, at the first speed of D range, a throttle pressure is applied to the cutback port through a cutback valve. The primary regulator valve sets the line pressure from a line pressure port higher. The cutback valve has a spool which is compressed in one direction. A first control chamber which is connected to a hydraulic servo (for example, a second brake hydraulic servo) which hydraulic pressure is applied at more than the second speed is formed against the pressing direction, a second control chamber which is connected to a hydraulic servo (for example, a second-coast brake hydraulic servo) to limit a coasting condition of the second speed is so formed as to follow the above pressing direction. At the second speed of second range, the cutback valve, as the first speed of D range, the throttle pressure is applied to the cutback port.
