Abstract: A database system includes a center server and local servers. The center server includes a replication requesting unit, a data consolidating unit including a center DB freeze requesting unit and a center DB freeze release requesting unit, a replication source managing table and a data consolidation completion notifying unit. Each of the local servers includes a local DB freeze requesting unit, a remote volume split requesting unit, a remote volume split completion notifying unit and a local DB freeze release requesting unit. The center server permits replications of local DB's in local storage subsystems to be created in the center storage subsystem and accesses shadow images of the replications to give a consolidated access to the plurality of local DB's.

Abstract: There is a strong demand for facilitation of management of storage region for DB data is required in a computer system combining an apparatus having the DBMS and virtualization function and software. In order to realize such requirement, the requirements for system management regarding a newly created DB and the information about the function to be set for the DB data are given to a system management server. The system management server detects a data structure of DB from such information and sends independently instructions to virtualization apparatuses to create virtual volumes or the like to which the data of each data structure is stored separately and set the function to the virtual volume as required. Thereafter, the system management server also issues an instruction to the DBMS to create a DB to store the data of data structure to the corresponding virtual volume.

Abstract: In the present invention, a management server manages, as virtual data areas, the physical data areas that storage devices have. Moreover, the management server includes a unit. Based on an access request received from each server, the unit issues, to the corresponding storage devices, an instruction of reading out the data onto caches from disks. Also, each storage device, which has received the instruction, includes each unit for reading out the data onto each cache in accordance with the instruction.

Definition of logical hierarchic structure of the network is accepted in the form of a tree of containers in a container tree window. Physical and logical parameters are accepted in physical and logical object windows, respectively. The physical and logical object windows are created in association with containers of the container trees.
