  • Patent number: 6487820
Abstract: A vehicle has a movable member movably disposed in an opening to close or open the opening. The seal is mounted to one of the movable member and an inner edge surrounding the opening conforming to each other. The seal has a seal portion subject to elastic deformation when being pressed against the movable member or the inner edge. The seal portion is made of a vulcanizable rubber. A base portion is made of a thermoplastic elastomer. The seal portion and the base portion are integrated by coextrusion. The rubber of the seal portion is vulcanized when passing through a vulcanizer.

  • Patent number: 5472544
Abstract: A method for producing a rubber based weather strip characterized as containing a metal core and as having a decorating treatment and/or a lubricating treatment applied to a surface of the rubber base which is made of EPDM. The decorating and/or lubricating treatment is effected by adhesively bonding a decorative and/or lubricating member to the surface of the rubber base. The method avoids the need for the conventional buffing step. This results in higher productivity for the production line which lowers costs and improves the work environment due to the absence of buffing dust. This method includes the steps of applying a corona discharge treatment to the surface of the rubber base of EPDM which has previously been subjected to a vulcanizing treatment, with the metal core being grounded, so that polar functional groups are formed in a molecular chain of the EPDM.

  • Patent number: 5295801
Abstract: A mold for hollow injection molding has an inlet for admitting a fluid into the molten resin when injected to form an interior hollow in the molded product. The inlet is opened and closed by retraction and advancement of a movable pin having at least a portion to fill the inlet and close it. When the inlet is closed, while the resin is being injected, the pin has a portion which projects out of the inlet into the space where the resin is injected. When the inlet is opened, the retraction of the pin leaves a short passageway in the injected resin leading from the fluid inlet for flow thereinto of the hollow-forming fluid. Preferably, the pin is stepped with an inlet-closing large rear portion and a smaller projecting forward portion which is located in and has an annular clearance with the inlet when it is open. The pin may be detachably connected to a movable plunger, operated by fluid or spring pressure, to enable replacement by pins of different lengths, sizes, etc.

  • Patent number: 5262105
Abstract: Molding a hollow shaped body which has a skin made of a synthetic resin and a hollow portion therein by a mold block provided with a mold cavity in the shape of the hollow shaped body, a tub into which an excess amount of the synthetic resin can flow and a small flow path communicating between the mold cavity and the tub. The process includes forming the skin of the hollow shaped body by injecting a molten synthetic resin into the mold cavity to fill up the cavity. Thereafter, a gas is introduced into the injected synthetic resin to thereby form the hollow portion. The gas injection forces a part of the synthetic resin out of the mold cavity and into the tub through the small flow path.
