  • Patent number: 7684672
Abstract: A broadcast storage system is disclosed which is easily controllable by the user for setting programs for timer recording and playing back recorded programs. The broadcast storage system has one or more slave apparatus and a master apparatus. The master apparatus grasps programs set for timer recording by each of the slave apparatus. When a program to be recorded is determined by the user or an automatic timer recording process, the master apparatus selects an apparatus to record the program such that a plurality of timer recording settings are not made at one time in one apparatus, and instructs the selected apparatus to set the program for timer recording. When instructed to set the program for timer recording, a slave apparatus sets the program for timer recording, and records the program at the time when the program is broadcast.

  • Patent number: 7421725
Abstract: Television programs are recommended in a flexible manner which a conventional keyword learning process has failed and also recommended with high accuracy. A method of recommending a program in an apparatus which receives broadcasts of programs together with information representing contents of the programs is carried out by generating a user profile having a plurality of themes with numerical values assigned thereto for representing preferred programs of the user, classifying themes by assigning numerical values to a plurality of respective themes with respect to each of a plurality of programs, using theme dictionaries containing keywords given to the themes, and determining programs to be recommended from the user profile and the numerical values assigned to the themes with respect to each of the programs.

  • Publication number: 20040083490
Abstract: Keywords featuring a program which a user may like are extracted from EPG data representing a program to be broadcasted. A predetermined additional value is added to each of the extracted keywords, so as to create a plurality of profiles, The plurality of profiles emphasize different kinds of keywords, and the additional value to be added to each of the keywords differs in accordance with a degree of the emphasis. Hence, the plurality of profiles can represent the user preference from different aspects. The program to be recommended is determined using one of the created profiles.

  • Publication number: 20020100047
Abstract: There are disclosed a method of and an apparatus for automatically recording programs recommended by opinion leaders selected by the user. A timer recording pattern server discloses timer recording pattern information including identification codes of programs recommended by the opinion leaders through the Internet for the respective opinion leaders. An automatic broadcast recording apparatus acquires the timer recording pattern information of an opinion leader selected by the user via the Internet. The automatic broadcast recording apparatus acquires program information including identification codes of the broadcast programs and broadcasting dates and times thereof. The automatic broadcast recording apparatus selects a program included in the timer recording pattern information from the program information and sets the program for timer recording. Thereafter, the automatic broadcast recording apparatus receives the program set for timer recording and records the program.
