Abstract: An illumination device includes a light guide plate to guide light that is provided with a cutout portion with a portion partially cut out, a plate surface of the light guide plate is provided with an auxiliary light guide plate extending from a light incident surface to a region between the cutout portion and a counter light incident surface, an auxiliary light guide plate-side light incident surface, among end faces of the auxiliary light guide plate, disposed on the light incident surface side is provided with an auxiliary light source, and a region, of the auxiliary light guide plate, overlapping the region of the light guide plate between the cutout portion and the counter light incident surface is a light exit section configured to output light from the auxiliary light source toward the region of the light guide plate between the cutout portion and the counter light incident surface.
