  • Patent number: 8192620
Abstract: A ballast-water treating apparatus that improves the performance of an in-line mixer so as to be able to sterilize a large volume of ballast water within a short period of time. There is provided a ballast-water treating apparatus that includes pipelines for feeding water to a ship's ballast tank(s) and for draining water from the ballast tank(s), ballast pumps on the pipelines, an ozone generator or hydrogen peroxide generator, a gas/liquid injection pipe for introducing generated ozone or hydrogen peroxide into the pipelines; and an in-line mixer that has two blades disposed crosswise in a tubular part composed of a main tubular part, a subsidiary tubular part that has an inside diameter smaller than that of the main tubular part and that is furnished with multiple projections, and a tapered part. The ballast-water treating apparatus can simultaneously carry out mechanical destructive sterilization via a swirling flow and sterilization of chemically active substances by micromixing.

  • Patent number: 6830370
Abstract: A cavitation generating device, wherein the chordal side edges of a pair of semi-elliptic vane panel disposed in a pipe body allowing fluid to be force-fed are crossed aslant with each other, a space between code side edges on the upstream side of the crossed part is closed by a partition plate dividing a pipe body cross-section into two parts, an opening part formed between a chordal edge of one semi-elliptic vane panel on the downstream side of the crossed part and a chordal edge of the other semi-elliptic vane panel on the upstream side of the crossed part is closed partially by restricting means such as a baffle board so as to form a guide vane, and an arc side edge of the semi-elliptic vane panel of the guide vane is connected to the inner wall of a fluid force-feeding pipe body; a fluid mixing device, wherein a plurality of projections are projected radially from the inner peripheral board surface of the pipe body on the downstream side of the guide vane.

  • Patent number: 6279611
Abstract: A unitary, self-contained apparatus for generating microbubbles using a pipe section with a constriction device for producing a venturi effect to cause a mainstream liquid flowing under pressure in the pipe section to draw a column of additive fluid into the mainstream liquid from an aspiration tube for mixing with the liquid and a turbulence part of the pipe section immediately downstream from the constriction device. Protrusions from the inside surface of the turbulence part of the pipe section protrude to at least the theoretical interface between the column of additive fluid and the surrounding mainstream liquid and preferably beyond, where the theoretical interface is a circumference of the column of additive fluid having a radius equal to the radius of the inside surface of the aspiration tube.

  • Patent number: 6255618
Abstract: A plasma arc welding for effectively letting gases of low boiling point substances for coating a steel sheet escape, ensuring the escape of a molten metal into gaps between the steel sheets and eventually accomplishing satisfactory plasma arc welding. A hole (31) is first bored in an upper sheet (21)(or both upper and lower sheets (21 and 22)) quickly by using a plasma arc (20) having greater power than an appropriate welding value, and a vapor of coating substances is allowed to escape through the hole (31). Subsequently, power of the plasma arc (20) is lowered to the appropriate welding value, and the upper sheet (21) and the lower sheet (22) are welded together while a filler (9) is being supplied to fill the hole (31) and the gap (23). While boring is made or immediately after boring is finished, the size of the gap (23) is measured on the basis of the plasma arc voltage, and the feed quantity of the filler (9) is controlled in accordance with the size of the gap (23).
