  • Publication number: 20100214608
Abstract: The user of an electronic device can easily know when a replaceable unit needs replacing (the service life). A host computer 100 connected to a media processing device 1 (electronic device) executes a step (S4) of acquiring maintenance counter information that is stored in the media processing device 1, steps (S5, S7) of calculating based on the acquired maintenance counter information A=(the total open/close count of the media tray of the media drive 41 (51))/(an assured media tray open/close count), B=(the cumulative CD writing time of the media drive 41 (51)/(the assured CD writing time), and C=(the cumulative DVD writing time) of the media drive 41 (51)/(the assured DVD writing time), and steps (S6, S8) of displaying the maximum value of values A, B, and C as the expected service life of the media drive 41 (51) on a display unit.

  • Publication number: 20100182360
Abstract: A media processing device, control method therefor, and program prevent a drop in the throughput of a media production process due to cleaning the print head. A publisher 1 has a media drive 41, a printer 11 that discharges ink from the nozzles of a print head and prints on the label side of a recording medium and applies a cleaning process to the print head, and a media transportation mechanism 31 for conveying media to the media drive 41 and printer 11. A control method for the publisher 1 has a receiving step S12 wherein the printer 11 receives an internal signal that is a signal other than a print command and a cleaning command and is sent and received within the publisher 1, and a cleaning step S17 of executing a cleaning process parallel to a media transportation process or a data writing process in response to the internal signal.

  • Publication number: 20090279394
Abstract: The effect of detection errors when detecting if a disc recording medium is in a disc drive is eliminated. A control unit 17 detects if an optical disc 11 was supplied to an optical disc drive 13 based on the operation of the transportation unit 16, causes the optical disc drive 13 to detect if an optical disc 11 is inside the disc drive, and compares the results of these detection operations. If the results do not match, the control unit 17 causes the optical disc drive 13 to repeat the operation discharging and loading the optical disc 11, and causes the optical disc drive 13 to again detect if an optical disc 11 is present after the discharge and loading operation. The control unit 17 then determines if the new detection result from the optical disc drive 13 and the detection result related to supplying the optical disc 11 to the optical disc drive 13 match, and based on the result of this evaluation detects an optical disc drive 13 operating error.

  • Publication number: 20090157857
Abstract: A data management system enables data on a network such as an internal LAN to be managed and is able to reliably prevent the data from leakage. The data management system has a network to which a management server for data management, a plurality of client PCs having a data processing function, and an optical disk publisher that issues a CD or a DVD into which the data is recorded are connected. The optical disk publisher issues the CD to only an authorized user.

  • Publication number: 20090092022
Abstract: A media processor is capable of keeping disposal history of media regardless of whether the media is externally created media or not. In the media processor, while used media set in a created media storage unit is being conveyed to a media disposal mechanism by a media conveying mechanism, a label surface image printed on a label surface of the media is read by a line sensor. Subsequently, the media is disposed of by the media disposal mechanism such that reading and writing are not possible. In a storage unit, the read image printed on the label surface is stored as media disposal history.

  • Publication number: 20090086004
Abstract: A user's operation burden can be reduced by giving the data recording command and the label printing command by the use of only an interface for writing data to a recording medium. A label printer includes an extraction portion extracting label information from a recording medium image file which stores data to be written to a recording surface of a recording medium and label information to be printed on a label surface of the recording medium. A label information printing portion prints the extracted label information on the label surface of the recording medium. A file writing portion writes the recording medium image file to the recording surface of the recording medium.

  • Publication number: 20090028010
Abstract: A media processor such as a CD publisher functions as a media library. The CD publisher takes out media from a media storage unit, sets the media in a media drive, performs writing of data, and stores the media in a writing-completed media storage unit if there is a data writing request and/or an additional data writing request. The publisher takes out the target media from the media storage unit on the basis of details stored in the storage unit and sets the media in the media drive if there is a data reference request and a data output request. Data of the media can be referenced from the outside, and media in which data writing has been completed can be used as a media library. When final additional writing is completed or there is a discharge command of the media, printing of a label related to data written on a label surface of the media is collectively performed, and then the media is discharged.

  • Publication number: 20070203946
Abstract: This invention is directed to a method and system of managing the processing and removal of media such as CD's and DVD's through a media processing device having a management database and a storage unit for storing processed media. The media processing system comprises an administrator PC, a plurality of user PCs, and a disc publisher interconnected through a LAN. The media processing device has a server function which writes to recordable media for forming processed media using media production data generated from media production commands from the user PCs. A user or system administrator can remove processed media from the media storage unit by entering user or system administrator authentication data into the system. If the system administrator removes all processed media from the media storage unit an e-mail message is sent to each user linked through the management database to the media processed by such user.
