  • Publication number: 20090161139
Abstract: This invention is directed to provide a method capable of performing filter processing suitable for each of different image reading methods. This method includes the steps of causing a light emitting unit to sequentially irradiate an image original with light components of three primary colors and read the image original, and causing the light emitting unit to simultaneously irradiate the image original with one of three different color combinations, which includes two of the light components of three primary colors, and read the image original. The method further includes the step of processing image data obtained based on the reflected light received by the light receiving unit after changing a filter to be used for image processing depending on whether reading of the image original is primary color reading or complementary color reading.

  • Patent number: 7339703
Abstract: An image forming apparatus and method for performing appropriate attribute determination on a wide area of image data with a simple configuration of the apparatus and performing high-quality image forming are provided. A luminance signal of each pixel of a multi-valued image is inputted to the original document reading unit, and a color attribute of a pixel of interest is determined by the pixel attribute determination unit based on the luminance signal. In the main controller, the array attribute number determined in accordance with an array of the color attribute is counted with respect to 32 lines of a block, which is obtained by dividing a band having 64 lines of the multi-valued image into 8 blocks in the main scanning direction, and the determined color attribute is counted. Based on the counted value, a parameter indicative of an image characteristic of the block is calculated. Based on the counted value and the calculated parameter, an image attribute of the block is determined.

  • Patent number: 7315400
Abstract: An image processing apparatus having a simple structure capable of forming high quality images. The image processing apparatus includes a document reader for generating a first luminance signal for each pixel in a color multi-valued image; a factor multiplication part for multiplying the first luminance signal by a factor to obtain a second luminance signal; a pixel-attribute determination part for determining the color attribute of a noticed pixel based on the second luminance signal; and a main controller. The main controller is configured to count an array attribute determined by an array of the color attributes for 32 lines in a block obtained by dividing a band including 64 lines in the color multi-valued image into eight in the main scanning direction, calculate image-characteristic parameters for the block based on the counted values, determine a block image attribute from the counted values and the calculated parameters, and determine the image attribute of the band based on the determination result.

  • Patent number: 7145693
Abstract: In ink-jet printing apparatuses having a monochrome head which is longer than a color head, if a monochrome image is processed as a color image, the printing speed cannot be improved. Accordingly, the color attribute is determined by pixel based on a luminance signal indicating a color multivalue image, and the number of color attributes and the number of array attributes in a first line group are counted. Based on these count values, a parameter indicating an image characteristic of second line group including the first line group is calculated. The image attribute of the second line group is determined in correspondence with the respective count values and the parameter. Then, based on the results of determination about adjacent second line groups, the image attribute of third line group included in the second line groups is determined. Thus attribute determination can be appropriately performed in predetermined band units of image data.
