    Abstract: A seat-occupant restraining apparatus is provided which includes a bag, accommodated in a shoulder belt, for restraining a seat occupant in a seat, and when a vehicle collides, expands the bag with a high-pressure gas produced by an inflator. A relief valve, which opens according to an increase in the internal pressure of the bag, is provided in a gas passage for supplying the high-pressure gas from the inflator to the bag. If the bag is completely expanded by the high-pressure gas from the inflator and the internal pressure of the bag reaches an appropriate value, the relief valve opens and discharges an extra high-pressure gas from the bag, whereby the internal pressure of the bag can be controlled to the appropriate value without causing variations. According to the above-described constriction, it is possible to realize a stable air vent function superior to that of a vent hole, without providing a vent hole in the bag of an air belt assembly.

    Abstract: A portion of a shoulder belt 6 of an air belt apparatus touching the breast portion of an occupant is composed of an inflatable rubber bag 12 shaped like a tube, a webbing 13 for covering the outside of the bag 12 so that tension is produced in case of a car collision, and a pad 28 for further covering the outside of the webbing 13. The pad 28 has a three-layer structure: the outermost layer is made from raised cloth 29 such as moquette, or the like, which feels pleasant to the touch; the intermediate layer is made from an urethane sheet 30 having elasticity; and the innermost layer is made from base cloth 31 for protecting the urethane sheet 30. The pad 28 has rifts 281 extending longitudinally. The pad 28 and an elastic element 32 made of a belt-like rubber sheet are sewed together with stitches 33 so that the rifts 281 and 281 are connected to each other. When the bag 12 is inflated in case of a car collision, the webbing 13 is inflated by the pressure of the bag 12.

    Abstract: In an occupant protecting device including an expandable bag housed within a belt for holding back an occupant upon collision of a vehicle, an outlet opening 331 in a buckle-side duct 28 and an inlet opening 183 in a tongue-side duct 18 are opposed to each other through a gap &agr;, and a seal member 35 made of a rubber and integrally provided with an outer lip portion 352 and an inner breakable portion 353 is mounted to the outlet opening 331. When a gas generated by an inflater upon collision of the vehicle is supplied to the buckle-side duct, the breakable portion 353 of the seal member 35 is broken to bring the lip portion 352 into close contact with the inlet opening 183, so that the gas is supplied from the buckle-side duct 28 through the tongue-side duct 18 to a shoulder belt, thereby expanding a bag housed in the shoulder belt. Thus, it is possible to easily and reliably perform the sealing of a gas passage in a connection between a buckle 31 and a tongue 19.

    Abstract: A seat-occupant restraining apparatus for a vehicle is provided that includes both an air bag and air bag inflator and an air belt and air belt inflator. An ignition controller controls the ignition of both the air bag and air belt inflators. An acceleration sensor is included. The ignition controller calculates the magnitude of the shock of collision, based on input from the acceleration sensor at the time of a collision of the vehicle by integrating the acceleration over a preset time, and the magnitude of the shock is compared with a first and second threshold, both of which are stored in advance. If the calculated shock is less than the first threshold, the ignition controller does not output an ignition signal to either the air bag or the air belt. For shocks between the two threshold values, the air belt assembly is operated. For shocks greater than the second threshold, both the air belt and the air bag are activated.

    Abstract: To enhance an external appearance of a buckle-side duct and to prevent the entry of dust into an opening in the buckle-side duct in an occupant protecting device including an expandable bag accommodated within a belt for holding back an occupant upon collision of a vehicle, an outlet opening defined in a tip end of the buckle-side duct and turned outwards of a vehicle body is connected with inlet openings defined in a tip end of a tongue-side duct and turned inwards of the vehicle body. A gas generated by an inflater upon collision of the vehicle is supplied from the buckle-side duct via the tongue-side duct to a shoulder belt to expand the bag accommodated in the shoulder belt. The outlet opening in the buckle-side duct opens sideways away from the occupant sitting in a seat, rather than upwards. Therefore, the outlet opening is not directly visible to the occupant, leading to the enhanced external appearance.

    Abstract: A table for use in a motor vehicle having a cargo room includes a top plate for use as a lid for the cargo room and legs pivotally mounted on the reverse side of the top plate. When the table is removed from the cargo room and the legs are projected from the top plate, the table is used as a table per se. The top plate can be closed with respect to the cargo room by a lock. A flexible tubular member is mounted on the reverse side of the top plate and extends away from the lock along the top plate. A string extends through the flexible tubular member and out of an opposite end thereof, and has an intermediate portion engaged by a holder on the reverse side of the top plate. The string has a distal end connected to a hook which is normally inserted and stored between the flexible tubular member and the top plate. The string is also stored on the reverse side of the top plate without being entangled by the lock.

The air bag module is arranged inside of a seat back of a seat of a motor vehicle and the lid of the module case is opened by a pressure of an air bag which inflates at the side collision of the motor vehicle, so as to deploy the air bag from the lid into a passenger compartment of the vehicle. Even when the lid has become unopenable due to the depression thereof by a door deformed by the shock of the collision, tear lines formed in a case body of the module case are torn to turn a front wall of the case body in a direction towards the front of the vehicle, and hence, the air bag can be deployed from the front wall part of the case body into the passenger compartment without hindrance.

    Abstract: A sewing section for integrally sewing three members (a front cover member 23 covering a front surface of a seat back, a side cover member 24 covering a side of the seat back, and a ball edge 27 clamped between both the cover members 23 and 24) is comprised of a final sewing portion 26.sub.2 for integrally sewing the front and side cover members 23 and 24 and the ball edge 27 at a location nearer a body portion 27.sub.1 of the ball edge 27, and a temporary sewing portion 26.sub.1 for integrally sewing the front cover member 23 and the ball edge 27 at a location farther from the body portion 27.sub.1 of the ball edge 27. When an air bag is expanded, the final sewing portion 26.sub.2 is broken, and the ball edge 27 is separated from the side cover member 24 and moved in unison with the front cover member 23. Thus, when the air bag used upon side collision of a vehicle and mounted within a seat is deployed, the ball edge in the sewing section 26 is prevented from interfering with the air bag.
