  • Patent number: 8965099
Abstract: A paper sheet recognition apparatus recognizes whether a paper sheet has a motion thread that is a thread part in which a pattern varies with a viewing angle. The paper sheet recognition apparatus includes multiple light sources that irradiate the paper sheet with lights from corresponding multiple directions, a line sensor that receives reflected light reflected from the paper sheet that is irradiated with the lights from the multiple directions by the light sources, an image processing unit that creates, based on an output signal that is outputted by the line sensor, multiple paper sheet images captured by using the light irradiated by the light source from each direction, and a recognition unit that judges whether the motion thread is present by comparing each image of the thread part included in each of the paper sheet images created by the image processing unit.

  • Patent number: 8345947
Abstract: A paper-sheet recognition apparatus recognizes a paper sheet, which is being transported, by using an optical line sensor and a magnetic line sensor. The paper-sheet recognition apparatus includes a memory unit that stores therein magnetic templates defined in advance for respective types and respective transport directions of paper sheets, wherein the magnetic templates are defined at optical resolution representing resolution of the optical line sensor; a selecting unit that selects a magnetic template based on a type and a transport direction of the paper sheet, the type and the transport direction being obtained by analyzing optical data acquired by the optical line sensor; and a comparing unit that divides magnetic data acquired by the magnetic line sensor into pieces of data each corresponding to the optical resolution, and compares the magnetic template selected by the selecting unit with the divided magnetic data.

  • Patent number: 6501087
Abstract: To keep operation of a control circuit for a line sensor reading operation always the same regardless of variations and differences between readers, simplify the control circuit, and avoid complicated processes such as setting various software process parameters for canceling differences between the readers. A line shaped, two-wavelength transmitting LED array and a line shaped light emitting/photodetecting part comprising a photodetector array and a two-wavelength reflecting LED array are disposed in opposition each other such that a read medium passes between the two-wavelength LED array for transmitting light and the light emitting/photodetecting part, and the two-wavelength LED array for tranmitting light and two-wavelength LED array for reflecting light emit light of different wavelengths.
