  • Publication number: 20090155895
Abstract: Initiation of growth and cultivation of cells can be performed by introducing the cells into culture compartments of a liquid-gas-phase exposure bioreactor containing a supply chamber in which there are disposed hollow-filament membranes having an inside diameter of no larger than 5 mm, wherein an inner volume of said hollow-filament membranes forms the culture compartments. Approximately one half of the supply chamber is filled with a nutrient medium and a remainder is filled with a gas mixture. Perfusion of medium and gas is turned on simultaneously or separately. The hollow-filament membranes and the cells contained therein are cyclically exposed to the gas or liquid phase.
    Type: Application
    Filed: December 18, 2008
    Publication date: June 18, 2009
    Applicant: ProBioGen AG
Inventors: Uwe Marx, Marco Riedel, Hikmat Bushnaq-Josting

  • Publication number: 20040248290
Abstract: The invention relates to culture systems and methods for continuous sterile cultivation of cells in high densities and for reducing the inoculation density at the beginning of cell cultivation in bioreactors. By using biodegradable gels that release low-molecular-weight constituents as nutrients for the cell culture or semi-solid media that are diluted during the course of the culturing and thus free up culture space for colonization with cells in high density, it is possible to sharply reduce the starting cell density at the beginning of cultivation in bioreactors. Biodegradable gels used are polypeptide (block) copolymers, in part comprising poly-L-glutamine, and semi-solid media used are methylcellulose, alginates, and agaroses.

  • Publication number: 20040096943
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a device which allow to cultivate cells in a sterile way over long time periods and at high densities and to obtain the maximum product volumes for time units from the cell cultures. Here the cultivation chamber and the supply container are semipermeably separated from each other, wherein the cultivation chamber comprises several fixed chambers and wherein the supply chamber is connected to a device for generating of a variably adjustable gas/cell cultivation medium mixture.
