  • Patent number: 5456270
Abstract: A hairstyling device and method include forming a hollow tubular member that is semi-rigid but that includes opposed first and second circumferential cuts to accommodate flexing of the device. Midpoints of the first circumferential cuts are diametrically opposed to midpoints of the second circumferential cuts. Connecting mechanisms, such as fastening devices or materials, a handkerchief or a scarf, may be used to secure the device in an arcuate configuration, so as to achieve a desired hairstyle. In operation, the device is rolled through a person's hair to wrap the hair about the exterior of the tubular member. Preferably, hook material or the like is formed on the outside of the device to facilitate the wrapping of the hair. Then, the device is bent into the desired shape and is secured in place.

  • Patent number: 5427120
Abstract: A modular brush for applying hair treatment solution in a quasi-random pattern includes a brush body and a plurality of removable rotating bristle modules. The bristle modules have tightly packed bristles that retain different volumes of hair treatment solution, such as dye, after the bristles have been dipped into a supply of the solution. The modules may be arranged to achieve the user-selected pattern of treatment. Movement of the brush causes the bristle modules to rotate, providing a fresh supply of solution to the sections of hair which are contacted by bristles and leaving the sections in their natural color where the sections are between bristle modules or between arrays of bristles on the same module. A locking member can be employed to selectively prevent rotation of the bristle modules. A detent-and-notch arrangement may be used to ensure synchronous rotation of the bristle modules.

  • Patent number: 5337765
Abstract: A modular brush for applying hair coloring in a user-selected pattern includes a brush body and a plurality of detachable bristle modules. The bristle modules have tightly packed bristles that retain a volume of hair treatment solution, such as dye after the bristles have been dipped into a supply of the solution. The modules may be arranged to achieve the user-selected pattern of hair coloring. The supply or number of supplies of the solution may be provided by a modular tray.

  • Patent number: 5301695
Abstract: A device for applying a hair treatment solution, such as dye, includes a body having a head and a handle extending from the head. Three arrays of bristles extend from a major surface of the head in a direction perpendicular to the direction of the handle. A center array of bristles has a high bristle density and functions as an absorbent structure for retaining and applying a treatment solution. The end arrays sandwich the center array and have a low bristle density. The bristles of the end arrays have a greater rigidity than those of the center array. The device is used to simultaneously comb hair on one side of a hair partition, apply treatment solution to the partition, spread the treatment solution, and repartition the hair for a subsequent application of treatment solution.
