Abstract: Technologies for informing a remote user of a local user's availability to receive a contact on a communication device are disclosed. The availability of the local user may be determined based on the local user's context information, which may be reported to the remote user in response to a contact status request. The local user's context information provided to the remote user may inform, for example, whether the local user is available to receive a contact, the best way to contact the local user, and/or other context information of the local user. The type and/or level of specificity of the local user's context information reported to the remote user may be determined based on a privacy level, which may be determined based on the local user's context, the identity of the remote user, and/or other criteria. In some embodiments, contact status updates may be provided to the remote user.

Abstract: Technologies for authorizing a passenger of an autonomous vehicle include determining a passenger authorization policy based on a request for a taxi service and determining whether a passenger is authorized for the taxi service based on the passenger authorization policy. The passenger authorization policy may include a set of rules for authorizing a passenger based on the request for the taxi service and/or a global authorization policy. For example, the passenger may be authorized based on the identity of the passenger, the number of passengers, the age of the passenger, an authentication token, and/or other methodologies. The passenger authorization policy may be generated by the autonomous vehicle in response to the request for a taxi service or received from a passenger authorization management server as part of the request for the taxi service.

Abstract: Technologies for contention-aware cloud compute scheduling include a number of compute nodes in a cloud computing cluster and a cloud controller. Each compute node collects performance data indicative of cache contention on the compute node, for example, cache misses per thousand instructions. Each compute node determines a contention score as a function of the performance data and stores the contention score in a cloud state database. In response to a request for a new virtual machine, the cloud controller receives contention scores for the compute nodes and selects a compute node based on the contention score. The cloud controller schedules the new virtual machine on the selected compute node. The contention score may include a contention metric and a contention score level indicative of the contention metric. The contention score level may be determined by comparing the contention metric to a number of thresholds. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Abstract: Technologies for generating a text message from user-selectable icons include a wearable computing device that determines a context associated with the wearable computing device. The wearable computing device determines user-selectable icons from predetermined user-selectable icons based on the context associated with the wearable computing device. Each of the user-selectable icons may have one or more textual meanings associated therewith for text message generation. The determined user-selectable icons may be displayed on a display of the wearable computing device.

Abstract: A patient support apparatus includes a frame having a patient support deck that is movable between a horizontal position to support a patient in a lying position and a chair egress position to support the patient in a sitting position. Depending upon a height of the patient, a lift system is operated to support the patient support deck relative to an underlying floor at different heights when the patient support deck is moved to the chair egress position. Depending upon a weight of the patient, at least one bladder of a mattress is either deflated or further inflated when the patient support deck is moved to the chair egress position and the patient is in the process of egressing from the patient support apparatus.

Abstract: An indicator apparatus is configurable for use in a healthcare communication system, such as a nurse call system. The indicator apparatus includes a visual indicator. The visual indicator is operable to selectively display one or more colors in response to calls received by the healthcare communication system.

Abstract: A patient support apparatus includes a frame and seat, thigh, and head sections coupled to the frame. A linkage is coupled to the head, seat, and thigh sections. The linkage has a first mode of operation in which the seat and thigh sections remain substantially parallel to each other as the head section is raised and lowered and the linkage has a second mode of operation in which the thigh section tilts relative to the seat section as the head section is raised and lowered. A handle is movable relative to the head section between a first position in which the linkage is in the first mode of operation and a second position in which the linkage is in the second mode of operation.

Abstract: A healthcare communication system includes a first plurality of computer devices operable as a nurse call system. The first plurality of computer devices has core nurse call functionality. The system also includes a second plurality of computer devices communicatively coupled to the first plurality of computer devices. The first plurality of computer devices are interconnected logically and/or physically in a tiered architecture arrangement to provide fault isolation among the tiers so that faults occurring in computer devices of one tier don't affect the operability of computer devices in other tiers and so that faults occurring in any of the second plurality of computer devices don't affect the core nurse call functionality of the first plurality of computer devices.
