  • Patent number: 5227844
Abstract: The feed surfaces of feed rollers along the paper path of an imaging machine are cleaned by passing a cleaning sheet along the paper path through the imaging machine, the cleaning sheet including a substrate carrying a coating of synthetic polymeric material in a pattern which assures contact between the coating and the feed surfaces to be cleaned, the material of the coating having a tack which enables the coating to pick off particles of unwanted material from the feed surfaces and capture the picked-off particles for movement with the cleaning sheet along the paper path and out of the machine.

  • Patent number: 4917503
Abstract: A photoactivated time-temperature indicator is based on a leuco base system. A thermally insensitive, white ("inactive") leuco base (or a mixture of such leuco bases) is mixed, preferably in a polymeric matrix, with a material that generates acid upon exposure to light. Photoexcitation, preferably by UV or near UV light, causes the formation of a thermally sensitive, color-forming ("active") product. Following this activation step, a progressive color development occurs at a rate that increases with temperature. The indicator is useful for monitoring the freshness of perishable products, particularly those stored at subambient temperature.

  • Patent number: 4906708
Abstract: A process for decreasing the melt index and increasing the melt viscosity and melt elasticity of polyamide by adding thereto an effective amount of an aryl phosphoryl azide compound as for example diphenyl phosphoryl azide, and thereafter heating the composition until the desired changes in melt index, melt viscosity and melt elasticity are attained.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 4812053
Abstract: An activatable time-temperature indicator consists of an oxygen-sensitive reaction product of a triarylmethane dye and a decolorant that is coated on a substrate and covered by an oxygen barrier. Optinally, an oxygen-permeable layer is between the coating and the oxygen barrier. The indicator is activated by removing the oxygen barrier. Following this activation step, a progressive color development occurs at a rate that increases with temperature. The indicator is useful for monitoring the freshness of perishable products, particularly those stored at sub-ambient temperature.

  • Patent number: 4804630
Abstract: A kit and method for detecting lithium ions in a sample. The kit includes a lithium ion selective color indicator which is a leuco precursor of an arylmethane dye dispersed in a matrix. In use, the color indicator is contacted with a sample and any color change therein is monitored. A color change in the indicator indicates the presence of lithium ions in the sample.

  • Patent number: 4737463
Abstract: A photoactivated time-temperature indicator is based on diacetylenic salts. A thermally unreactive ("inactive") diacetylenic salt (or a mixture of such salts) is mixed, in a polymeric matrix, with a material that generates acid upon exposure to light. Photoexcitation, preferably by UV or near UV light, causes the formation of a thermal reactive ("active") free diacetylenic acid. Following this activation step, a progressive color development occurs at a rate that increases with temperature. The indicator is useful for monitoring the freshness of perishable products, particularly those that require refrigeration.

  • Patent number: 4550150
Abstract: Process of detecting the presence of certain gases, including certain pollutants, in small concentrations; or to cause partial polymerization of certain polyacetylene compositions for use in time/temperature history indicators or radiation dosage indicators. The process involves contacting a reactive gas, such as a nitrogen oxide, a halide or ozone, with a crystalline substituted acetylenic monomer containing at least two conjugated triple bonds and substituents having at least one atom of oxygen or nitrogen. In particular the acetylenic compound is 2,4-hexadiyne-1,6-bis(phenylurethane) crystallized from tetrahydrofuran or acetone.
