Patent number: 11711261Abstract: A recovery workflow is part of an automated management service for bare metal hosts allocated for single-tenant operation in a multi-tenant environment. The health of the hosts is monitored using a set of health criteria. If it is detected that one of the host machines fails a health check then a host recovery workflow can be initiated. As part of the workflow, the failed host can be repurposed or retired. A spare host class can be used to obtain a new host to take over for the failed host. Once deployed, the operation of the new host can be tested. Upon passing the test, the new host can take over for the failed host. A new host resource can be automatically requested to be added to the spare host class in order to ensure that there are sufficient resources available in case of an additional failure.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 2022Date of Patent: July 25, 2023Assignee: AMAZON TECHNOLOGIES, INC.Inventors: Ian Man Hin Leung, Rachit Jain

Publication number: 20220188358Abstract: Described herein are techniques for processing content items for presentation via a content feed of an online service. Upon receiving a request associated with a particular end-user of an online service for a content feed, a connection graph is analyzed to identify a plurality of content items that are eligible for presentation to the end-user. Some subset of content items that share a common relationship with the end-user, as indicated by a common edge in the connection graph, are identified. This subset of content items is then grouped together for presentation within the content feed in a content carousel, where the content carousel is positioned within the content feed, relative to other content items, based on the highest ranking content item presented via the content carousel.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 10, 2020Publication date: June 16, 2022Inventors: James Hung, Samson Hin-Leung CHOI, Fangbing QIU, Collin Dang YEN, Heyang LIU, Xiang LIN, Garrett Gabriel WELSON, Kangning HU, Ying XUAN, Yanbin JIANG, Diya Dutt SHARMA, Manas Haribhai SOMAIYA

Patent number: 9046877Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a system (SYS) for managing an alarm signal in a system comprising a first internal clock. The system is intended to cooperate with a portable player (PP) comprising a second internal clock and a screen (S). The method comprises the steps of: —setting the time of said first internal clock at the time of said second internal clock, —selecting a given time value being displayed on said screen, —memorizing said given time value in said system, —setting the time of said second internal clock at the time of said first internal clock, —triggering an alarm signal on said system when the time of said first internal clock reaches said given time value. According to this method, when the portable player is docked to the system, the system according to the invention does not require its own screen because the screen of the portable player is used to display the current time and the alarm time during setting it, resulting in a reduction of the costs of the system.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 2012Date of Patent: June 2, 2015Assignee: WOOX Innovations Belgium NVInventors: Kin-Wa Tang, Hin Leung Norman Chan, Peter Kong, Ka Man Lui

Patent number: 5858809Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing a conductive plane beneath a suspended microstructure. A conductive region is diffused into a substrate. A dielectric layer is added, covering the substrate, and then removed from a portion of the conductive region. A spacer layer is deposited over the dielectric and exposed conductive region. A polysilicon layer is deposited over the spacer layer, and formed into the shape of the suspended microstructure. After removal of the spacer layer, the suspended microstructure is left free to move above an exposed conductive plane. The conductive plane is driven to the same potential as the microstructure.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 1997Date of Patent: January 12, 1999Assignee: Analog DevicesInventors: Kevin Hin-Leung Chau, Roger T.
