  • Publication number: 20020172276
Abstract: A system for reducing the complexity of an adaptive decision feedback equalizer, for use in connection with a dual-mode QAM/VSB receiver system is disclosed. QAM and VSB symbols, which are expressed in two's compliment notation, include an extra bit required to compensate for a fixed offset term introduced by the two's compliment numbering system. A decision feedback equalizer includes a decision feedback filter section which operates on symbolic decisions represented by a wordlength which excludes the added bit representing the offset. The vestigal word is convolved with the decision feedback filter's coefficients, while a DC component, corresponding to the excluded bit, is convolved with the same coefficient values in a correction filter. The two values are summed to provide an ISI compensation signal at the input of a decision device such as a slicer. A DC component representing a pilot tone in VSB transmission systems also introduces a DC component, and additional bits, to a VSB wordlength.

  • Publication number: 20020167421
Abstract: An input device comprising a fixed light source, a plurality of light detectors surrounding the light source, and a member comprising reflective surface portions slidably mounted above the light source. When the member is slid from a neutral position to one of a plurality of activating position, light from the light source is reflected by one of the reflective surface portions directly from the light source to an associated light detector.

  • Publication number: 20020168357
Abstract: The invention includes antibodies that provide superior anti-coagulant activity by binding native human TF with high affinity and specificity. Antibodies of the invention can effectively inhibit blood coagulation in vivo. Antibodies of the invention can bind native human TF, either alone or present in a TF:VIIa complex, effectively preventing factor X binding to TF or that complex, and thereby reducing blood coagulation. Preferred antibodies of the invention specifically bind a conformational epitope predominant to native human TF, which epitope provides an unexpectedly strong antibody binding site.

  • Patent number: 6475916
Abstract: A new method is provided for the creation of ultra-thin gate oxide layers. Under the first embodiment, sacrificial oxide and nitride are deposited, openings are created in the layer of nitride where the ultra-thin layer of gate oxide is to be created. A layer of poly is deposited over the layer of nitride. The layer of polysilicon is polished, leaving the poly deposited inside the openings. The nitride is removed leaving the gate structure in place overlying the grown gate oxide. Under the second embodiment, sacrificial oxide and nitride are deposited followed by the deposition of TEOS oxide. The layers of TEOS, oxide and nitride are patterned creating openings that expose the surface areas of the layer of sacrificial oxide where the ultra-thin layers of gate oxide are to be grown. A thin conformal layer of nitride is deposited over the structure, this thin layer of conformal nitride is etched to form thin spacers on the sidewalls of the openings in the layers of TEOS oxide and nitride.

  • Patent number: 6475875
Abstract: A process for forming insulator filled, shallow trench isolation (STI), regions in a semiconductor substrate, featuring a disposable polysilicon stop layer used to allow uniform insulator fill to be obtained, independent of shallow trench width, has been developed. The process features filling shallow trench shapes with a first high density plasma (HDP), deposited silicon oxide layer, followed by the deposition of the thin polysilicon stop layer, and a second HDP silicon oxide layer. After a planarizing chemical mechanical polishing procedure residual regions of the second HDP silicon oxide, still remaining in regions overlying the insulator filled shallow trench shapes, are selectively removed using the thin polysilicon layer as a stop layer. The polysilicon layer is then thermally oxidized. The thickness of the polysilicon layer can be varied such that the resultant polysilicon oxide layer serves to alleviate the possible oxide loss in the STI regions during subsequent clean processes.

  • Publication number: 20020145275
Abstract: A gas generator according has a polymeric closure and an igniter subassembly comprising an igniter and a polymeric gas generator body. The gas generator body and the polymeric closure define a hermetically sealed combustion chamber for receiving a gas generant. The igniter receives an electrical current and ignites the gas generant. The generated gas can be used in vehicle occupant safety devices including seat belt pretensioners, airbags, compressed gas vessel openers, and other devices requiring a rapid pulse of high-pressure gas.

  • Publication number: 20020145321
Abstract: a seating structure provides improved comfort and includes a single, pair, or multiple numbers of moving seating assemblies with independent platforms, especially suited for the automotive or aircraft seating environments. A motion mechanism provides each seating assembly with at least one of total rocking, vertical up and down movement, lateral, and limited slight turning movement and in one embodiment generally constrains the seat members of the seat assemblies from interference with each other. The seating assemblies are provided at a neutral angle that corresponds to the particular application of the seat. Independent up and down movement, and rocking, improves seating comfort health, and safety especially as applied to a seating environment, where a user is likely to be seated for an extended period, such as in an automobile or aircraft.
