Publication number: 20080048440Abstract: A direct port connection for connecting a tube to a port without the use of an adapter fitting. A modified port design permits the use of prior art adapter fittings as well as the direct port connection of the present invention. Consequently, the invention permits the most efficient tube-to-port connection to be determined on an application-by-application basis at the time of making the connection.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 25, 2006Publication date: February 28, 2008Inventors: Herbert G. Anderson, Jeffry Beier, Hiralal V. Patel

Patent number: 5564177Abstract: A fitting body is provided with a lip that protrudes radially from at least one of the side walls of the seal groove in the sealing face toward the other side wall to form an undercut whereby an annular seal is trapped axially behind the lip to prevent the annular seal from falling out of the groove. The lip is formed by forming the fitting body with a ledge that is integral with the fitting body and protrudes axially from the sealing face adjacent one of the side walls of the groove in the sealing face. The ledge is then flattened to form the lip and an annular seal such as an elastomeric O-ring seal is then inserted into the groove with the annular seal being mechanically trapped axially behind the lip to prevent the annular seal from falling out of the groove.Type: GrantFiled: June 5, 1995Date of Patent: October 15, 1996Assignee: Parker-Hannifin CorporationInventors: Edward M. Fernandes, Hiralal V. Patel

Patent number: 4867489Abstract: A fitting for joining a tube to a threaded body member includes a nut having a conical camming surface and a collapsible sleeve with a mating conical surface and internal annular serrations for gripping the tube. A seal in the face of the body member seals against a front transverse shoulder of the sleeve while an internal groove in the sleeve houses an o-ring for sealing against the tube. The rear wall of the groove is in a dogleg configuration and is engaged with the rear end of the sleeve to be collapsed therewith into close engagement and embedment with the tube to prevent seal extrusion at high pressures. The sleeve includes stop shoulders thereon to limit threaded engagement of the nut and thus the collapse of the sleeve and is disclosed in one and two piece embodiments.Type: GrantFiled: September 21, 1987Date of Patent: September 19, 1989Assignee: Parker Hannifin CorporationInventor: Hiralal V. Patel

Patent number: 4407532Abstract: A hose coupling includes an insert and a sleeve extending over the outer surface of the hose. The sleeve is crimped radially inward to secure the coupling to the hose and the sleeve has a plurality of grooves on the outer surface increasing in depth progressively away from the end of the hose to reduce the amount of material in the wall of the sleeve and thereby reduce the amount of force required to crimp the sleeve onto the hose.Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 1981Date of Patent: October 4, 1983Assignee: Dana CorporationInventors: Hiralal V. Patel, Samuel A. Rudolph

Patent number: 4357822Abstract: A collet assembly for a hose crimping tool is disclosed in which rigid metal jaw elements are encircled by and locked within a separately molded elastomeric cage. The cage positions the elements in the free state and allows them to be radially compressed for the crimping operation. Interlocking surfaces are provided to retain the jaws within the cage without need of adhesives, or the like.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 1980Date of Patent: November 9, 1982Assignee: Dana CorporationInventor: Hiralal V. Patel

Patent number: 4118970Abstract: A crimping machine for crimping a metal end fitting onto a flexible hose includes a stationary socket, a crimping die arranged in the socket for axial movement, and a hydraulic actuator. A valve member is provided in a fluid flow passage leading from a pump to the actuator. The distance between the valve member and a piston of the actuator is precisely controlled to control the axial movement of the crimping die relative to the socket.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 1977Date of Patent: October 10, 1978Assignee: The Weatherhead CompanyInventor: Hiralal V. Patent number: 4046315Abstract: A centrifugal separator for separating contaminants from contaminated oil and which may be mounted in a variety of positions relative to an engine block is disclosed. The centrifugal separator has a shroud which defines a first chamber and has a hollow rotor rotatably mounted in the first chamber and defining a second chamber. Oil under pressure is admitted to the second chamber and flows into the first through tangential reaction nozzles in the rotor to cause contaminants to migrate toward the sidewall of the second chamber under the influence of centrifugal force. A jet pump is in fluid communication with the first chamber to prevent excess fluid buildup in the first chamber, which would inhibit rotation of the rotor. SUBACKGROUND OF THE INVENTIONConventional fluid filters, such as oil filters, are basically mechanical strainers which include a filter element having pores which trap and segregate dirt from the fluid.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 1975Date of Patent: September 6, 1977Assignee: The Weatherhead CompanyInventors: James C. Klingenberg, Hiralal V. Patel, Philip W. Morse

Patent number: 4034592Abstract: A crimping machine for radially inwardly crimping an end fitting onto a hose by means of a contractible die assembly includes a reciprocable ram. A pusher assembly is mounted on the ram for transmitting ram force to the die assembly. The pusher assembly includes first and second semicircular pusher members, and the pusher members are mounted for axial movement with the ram and for lateral movement relative to the ram. The die assembly includes two disjuncted die sections, one of which is carried on the end of each pusher member by connecting means which permits relative radial movement between the die section and the pusher member. A cam follower on each pusher member follows a cam surface on the machine for moving the pushers laterally outwardly when the die sections are pulled from the socket by the pushers during retraction of the ram.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 1976Date of Patent: July 12, 1977Assignee: The Weatherhead CompanyInventors: Karl K. Chen, Hiralal V. Patel, Irving G. Frank, Donald Pistoor

Patent number: 4034593Abstract: A crimping machine for radially inwardly crimping an end fitting onto a hose by means of a contractible die assembly includes a reciprocable ram. A pusher assembly is mounted on the ram for transmitting ram force to the die assembly. The pusher assembly includes first and second semicircular pusher members, and each pusher member is mounted for axial movement with the ram and for lateral swinging movement relative to the ram about a pivot axis which is parallel to the longitudinal axis. The die assembly includes two disjuncted die sections, one of which is carried on the end of each pusher member by an attachment arm which is deflectable to permit radial movement of the die sections relative to the pusher members. The attachment arm is provided with manually deflectable tabs which secure the die sections in place during crimping and which are deflectable to permit removal and replacement of the die sections.Type: GrantFiled: April 9, 1976Date of Patent: July 12, 1977Assignee: The Weatherhead CompanyInventor: Hiralal V.
