    Abstract: An inexpensive power supply unit which may be used for video display devices is provided. The unit saves power when supplying power to a light load, such as during remote control standby. Power for a controller which controls each part of a video display device is supplied from the switching power supply. Power consumption of the switching power supply is reduced by extending an OFF period setting for the switching power supply when operation of a display drive circuit is turned off.
